Fitted the bash guard i ordered from the shop, had to remove the rear brake pedal to access the engine bolt.
It came out ok, but when putting it back in, it sheared, whats the best way to fix?
Im thinking of drilling what is left out and the threads, then filling it with weld and re-tapping to the proper size, i have already ordered the pivot bolt, i will update this if it all goes to plan.
Cheers Steve, im not to keen on helicoils, plus i have a stick and mig welder at hop so filling with weld and re threading seems the easiest option for me, on another note, i fitted the bash guard and it looks awesome :
As there is no pressure on the broken threaded portion it should be possible to get it out without damaging the threads. A left-handed drill bit would be ideal but otherwise an ordinary drill bit might just screw it through as I am pretty sure there is a hollow section of frame behind it.
It should move relatively freely as it won't be rusted in or Loctited as you recently had it out
I sorted it today, i drilled out the broken thread from 8mm to 12mm, i then inserted a 12mm steel rod and welded it in place, i then cut the tube section at the back of the pedal off and slipped the pedal over the 12mm rod, this is the new pivot, the section of tube i cut of the pedal then got welded to the end of the 12mm rod making a locking cap, the rear brake is now working spot on and smooth, it wont ever shear or break in a fall either, if i need to remove it, its just a simple case of grinding the weld off the cap and removing it.
