Sunday spin.....Marston Doles
Permalink

Went for a bit of a blast about this morning..did the usual Stareton, Hunningham, and then down to Ufton..I then ventured out to Marston Doles as there looks like a long trail there but when I got to it there was a sign on the gate saying road closed and a council document zip tied to gate saying it was going to be shut for 18 months for repairs...which was a bummer. What was interesting was that when travelling back to Ufton on Welsh rd east I spotted a UCR sign just between Napton and Southam. Doubled back and went down it. It quickley just vanished into a field of long grass. I hadnt got a clue which way I was supposed to go so I just went back to the main road. Will deffo have to investigate further..what was good is that the sun was shining but there was still plenty of mud about due to recent rain......Once again the TTR never missed a beat and pulled me through some nice deep water . I am starting to feel a lot more comfortable on it and the more I ride it the better it starts stops and pulls cleaner from low revs.

Can't see a UCR off the Welsh Road confuse

Marston Doles.jpg

Do you know Boz - lives at Cubbington and rides a TTR250?

I am sure he would know all the UCRs in your area. Why not send him a PM - his id is bozz

Hi Brian, The UCR was about from point 115 to 109 (lady hill),

It had a tag on the gate post and I could see tracks in the grass where a land rover had gone across but they faded out as I was trying to follow them,

I like you tried to check it on OS (  http://maps.the-hug.net/  )  and couldnt see it

but its shown on Trailwise.(   http://www.trailwise.org.uk/gmaps/gmap.htm   )

I am a bit green at this (excuse the pun) so would welcome a day out with some one who has got a clue,

I dont know Boz or even ever seen another TTR, hopefully will cross paths soon.

Got some carb jets on order which should arrive this week, then once I've had a quick play you can have your AFR kit and pipe back Brian - give you some incentive for some 325 tuning

The ucr does exist runs from welsh road east to windmill lane. Devon boys have ridden this with me. The great Olly Cooke and some of the others who came down to the national TRF agm in Warwickshire a couple of years ago.

Route is  not shown on is maps, but is a ucr.

Haven't been out on mine, because its clean and for sale and I don't want to tempt any problems occurring til I get the 325.

Once I get it I will pm and take you out. There is another long ucr which you will not see on OS.

You will find it difficult to follow on the ground unless you know the route, hence why you had to turn around.

Marston Doles is tro'd on the Warwickshire side due to idiots in 4x4s and quads who took great pleasure in creating two huge bomb holes in one very soft section of the route. These filled with 3 ft of water. The idiots filmed themselves squirting mud and water everywhere passing and repassing to make the holes deeper! Then they posted the footage on social media to share the damage caused!!!!!

I'm surprised to learn of a UCR with public access that is not on OS maps, is this quite common? I've always used OS maps as like the bible of where I can legally ride!

Trust me. There are plenty of routes not shown on is that carry a presumption of vehicular rights.

OS maps are useful but not 100% accurate.

Boz

The one shed71 is talking about is definately a ucr it runs back to ladbroke hill lane which comes out on ladbroke straight .I beleive it follows the hedge line on the left side from welsh lane .The long grass hides some very deep holes "beware" the other end on the 90degree bend on ladbroke hill lane is usually very cut up and can be a challenge after heavy rain with large deep ruts done it solo once and wished i hadnt .Only the welsh lane end is marked with warwickshire black and white ucr .Im sure locals remove ucr markers in the area as there is conflict with bikes using the old railway at marton end .
