Timing Chain & Tensioner

Hi all,

I have done most of the maintenance tasks on my 2003 model TTR since I bought it last autumn. One thing I have not looked at yet is the cam-chain and tensioner and I was wondering if these tend to give trouble. Has anyone any advice before I go at this task?

Thanks!

Hi there

The tensioner and chain don't give trouble as such but, as with cam chains in any engine, they do a lot of work and are therefore subject to wear.

You will need to have the tank and cam cover off to check the chain for wear. See here for a rough guide.]
