1. Honda XR 250 1997 and 1998. They were reliable, pretty light, bulletproof. But had one minus - kick starter (that was pain in the ass when doing enduro riding), no electric starter.
2. Bought KLX 250s 2010. This one had injection and electric starter, was heavier than XR, had nice green color and stickers. The biggest minus - lack of the power, low throttle response. Initially it was running like scooter. First thought after I bought (on ebay without testing ) it was -WTH is this? :) I was not happy with it. So, I changed rear sprocket to 50 teeth, put EJK ECU Controller (do no not recommend this change not much diff I felt), removed catalyse converter and all other crap from the muffler. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eUU0XftmlI
After all these mods the bike started to run faster. I did a trip around Lithuania 2000km. It was screaming on 6th grear 8000RPM at speed 95kmh like a child and consuming just around 4,5l per 100km. It was enough for me and I sold it.
I was disappointed with KLX. So, I decided go back to future :) I moved on 1993 years and bought this old TTR 250 for 1050 british pounds last autumn. It is lighter than KLX, has smaller rear sprocket, has electric starter too. But it goes much much faster when KLX, and
a little bit faster then XR. With 1srt gear without clutch and standard sprockets I can bring the front wheel up. It has just 12 000 miles on the clock.
Adding photos... Actually you will see two TTRs. Mine is with the black seat and custom muffler (I think it was from WR250x)? The second TTR belongs to my wifes brother. I borrowed a Brother Exhaust muffler from him and put it on my TTR. I can confirm it improved a little performance.
Last week I measured the compression of the engine cold 11bar, and warmed 12bar. Pretty good like for old bike :) I am thinking to put 325cc, but will wait till compression goes down on stock piston.
Cheers.

one thing to add. As the bike is old is had problem with the rear shock. The seal was leaking, I bought new for 60$ and changed by my self. Oil stopped leaking. Other than that I changed front bearings to SKF. It felt to dry but the balls were OK. It still could go for long miles.
The should be a problem in the future with the rusty fuel tank. Somehow, I need to clean the rusts. Other than that, the bike do not need anything, just push full throttle and enjoy enduro :)
On thing to add. The head bulb is not common and the price is pretty high for new. This is not accepted :)

Hi Arthur
I appreciate your interesting and informative posts - plus of course the photos
I am very interested in learning from you on your rear shock rebuild.
I have so far not had the courage to try and repair one myself
Can I ask what make and model of seal head you bought please?
Also, how easy did you find the rebuild and what special tools did you use, if any?
