Ive organized a two day ride with an overnight stay on sun 20th march .
So far its myself on the ttr and a mate on his wrf450 heading from taree nsw for the 300k trip taking in the barrington tops forest (our local bermuda triangle) and a slightly shorter trip back on monday .my brother is heading north from sydney via the putty rd on his wr250 motard again about 300ks
Camping overnight is $8.00 with beer and dinner avalable at the pub , my son is driving my forester with fuel and gear so traveling light .there isnt any fuel in the village but i can load up a few more litres if anyones intersed (theres bunk beds with light breakfast at the pub for $30 for more civilised acomadation)
If there are any ttr folk interested let me know ,its just an excuse for riders to get out for a casual ride and some bench racing at the pub
Well worth googling moonan flat pub and barinton tops to have a look at the area .

Ttr is shining route sheet on bars will have a Garmin for the more remote stuff good weather forecast around 30deg will be on the lookout for the elusive Vic bitter
Im back from the quest the pub is a vic bitter fre zone its a tooheys pub now with very nice tooheys old on tap (black beer ) .which was promptly followed by the 400grm schotch fillet steak
the run down starred of a dry and dusty 29deg with some great side roads to minimise the time on the sealed rd fuel and a pie at glochester before more dirt roads to a short break before we climbed the mountain the temp steadidly droped before it settled at a nice 9 deg for some trail riding on the western side of the forest saw a few roos and wild horses and some great alpine scenery above 1500meters before the 1000m descent into moonan flat for the over night stop (270ks traveled )
Day two a nice bacon and egg breakfast cooked in the trailer then the 30 min climb up into the cold with a fuel stop to make sure we could do the loop from pole blue to glouschester tops this is our third attenpt of the crossing with a 45km stretch of alpine tracks cut out of basalt rock (im sure there is more rocks than dirt ) we perted with the support vehicle and made it to mount barrington with the ttr doing it hard in the rocks and now rain and fog the two endro bikes made easy work of it and i just set my own pace bouncing from rock to rock
18 ks in of the main track we decided to commit to going into the part that had beeten us twice before as we took off the WR snaped the cluch cable we tried for an hour to botch uo a repair but to no avail. We had to admit defeat once more as its was going to be too much of a risk going further in now.
Plan b was to ride the lovley rocks all 18ks back to the main rd and play it safe all the way back home still a good days adventure and another 250 ks
im now going to try again in early summer when it will be a bit warmer and drier with a base camp at glochester tops camping area and go in from the other end. Its quite a chalenge its altitude cold temps steep hills rocks and always wet to some degree combined with no comunication ext its a matter of being self sufficent a great chance to take on a good dirt bike adventure.
This time having my son driving the main road as back up helped a lot with the enduro bikes limited by there 90 km range and he even set up my tent before my arival on sat arvo
over all a great couple of days a bit of a chalenge a few laughs and out on the ttr
You may notice my brothers wr250rx motard he rode up from Sydney and crossed the tops on the main rd before heading back to Sydney covering 840ks in the two days
Must have been great doing it with friends and family. your clocking up some kms dirt riding on the ttr. All mine seems to clock up on tarmac.
Spot on my first time out with my son driving back up I'm a really proud dad he did s great job .my younger brother doing a wet cold crossing of the Barrington tops on a motard was impressive a weekend of good memories
