Hi everyone

 

So its been an interesting month. Managed to drown a land rover and crashed the ttr twice on trails. With yesterdays mishap I managed to hit the front fork at a respectable 20km/h and now its leaking oil from the hex nut. Tried to look at some diagrams to see how it seals but did not quite get the answer I'm looking for. I know that I'll have to strip the bike just not sure what seals to get or should i just buy all seals and redo both forks.

My parents are in JHB at the moment so they can pick up the spares for me from one of the bike shops there and send it up to Botswana. But where should i start looking for the problem? Or should I start looking at a new fork.

Just for interest sake with the damages i could easily have bought another ttr

Sorry to hear of the problem. 

That hex bolt seals to the fork leg with a simple copper washer. Perhaps just loosen and re-tighten it?

Oops - either way it looks like it just wasn't your day to go out driving/riding. disbelief

The Landrover will need drying out after extracting from that puddle. hmm

The leaking fork - that can be repaired/replaced.

I've never had cause to attack the internals but this diagram shows what is inside

........... and the only bits that may let oil leak downward are items 16 Gasket, 18 O ring and 19 Plug.

The plug, number 19, could be the culprit and just may need tightening.

Beware, though, because Brian had a bit of a bother with one of his,  RECENTLY  look at the bottom of the page.

Thanks alot for the quick reply. The hex nut was completely loose and after re-torqued it's ready for another adventure.

Brian I'll order some goodies from you once the landie bill is settled lol.
