Whenever I think a customer can't surprise me any more, I get one that does!
Turns out that TTR250 owner Chris Hayden developed a Vincent 1000 to race at the Isle of Man TT and took the lap and race records for a Vincent in 1988.
This is him in action below
Chris said the hardest part was that his Vincent was too big for the classic race so he had to qualify against modern bikes in the Senior event.
Chris used a 1949 Rapide engine, gearbox and UFM and fitted Norton forks.
The Vincent rear frame was modified to take Girling suspension units. Compression ratio was 9.6:1, cams were Mk 2, and the Mk 1 concentric carbs were on extended inlet ports.
Chris said he couldn't have ridden a standard Vincent in the TT and expected to survive!
I checked him out and sure enough he is on the Isle of Man TT finishers board for the Senior event in 1988!
Yeah an old bike with not the most sophisticated suspension and tyres plus the weight of it for 226 miles. Alotta concentration! Expect he was worn ragged by the end!
