yes it looked even more original before I got my hands on it,1500 miles
ive removed the mirrors, indicators, and made a temporary tail tidy,

when I test rode it,it seemed to run fine but I could hear some serious sucking going on, upon further inspection it appears that the lid/cover of the airbox is missing, and tucked away in there is one of those "marmite" airfilters a K&N ,tell tale signs of it being played with.

so yesterday I decided investigate further, I removed the seat to check the snorkel, its stock and not trimmed inside or out,i then removed the silencer to see if the restrictor is intact in the header, and its gone, nice and smooth in there, I'm assuming its been up-jetted, but I haven't looked yet, thats my next job,i hoping NOT to go through deep water but id still like the lid on the airbox just in case, so I have one on order,

this brings me to a question,
does removing the restrictor in the header warrant a bigger jet/s ? I'm intending to run it stock, and when I re-fit the lid I know it,ll run like crap ,especially if it has been jetted to suit the crappy filter,
I might "borrow" some bits off our lads raid as its just sitting there taking up precious room in the workshop, [ you reading this ade ? ]
firstly I need to check them jets

any advice/comments will be much appreciated
nel

righty then

this morning I did a bit of experimenting, and took a few bits off our lads raid,
I took the air filter and airbox lid/cover,and put it on my bluey , after comparing the snorkel to a new one that brian has in stock , mine has indeed been chopped/modded, theres 2 rungs left at the top,and 1 rung at the bottom,i haven,t looked at the jets yet, I'm a big believer of "if it aint broke....... . a quick ride round the block and it rides really well, more responsive, with a smoother power delivery, the standard filter from the raid wasn't up to much,so I ended up using the K&N ,

personally I think the bike has been set up to run with some sort of zorst, and was probably taken off prior to being sold.so I might get hold of one sometime,or wait until our lad get his and try it

hi again guys

just been for a proper ride,[ its bloody cold ] and the ttr isn't quite right, low down its brill, but if I accelerate very gradually it splutters a little at midrange but its fine again high end

can I ask for your advice

2005 ttr250 with 1500 miles
standard exhaust
snorkel mod
K&N air filter

I cant tell you what size jets are in as I haven't looked yet,but I assume they are bigger than stock, and probably too big

I'm sure it would sort it out if I added a nice can ,but id really like to keep the stock one, I'm sure the bike has had the full "uncorking" at some time ,if I remove the airbox lid it runs better, but I don't want to run the bike without it,
i need to get it back to stock or as near as possible and then work from there,

so if i fit a stock filter and fit the airbox lid, would a bigger than standard main jet be needed to compensate for the snorkel mod,
hope you follow,
i suppose I'm asking if a standard ttr would need an up-jet with the snorkel modded? if not, then stock jets would possibly sort it out
i know what i mean but i always have trouble with explaining myself
thankyou

Just a trimmed snorkel probably isn't going to make a crazy lot of difference. But yours has had the header restrictor cut out too hasn't it.. Just put a nice shiny can on it, prob easier..

thanks pete
I'm glad you got my drift, yes header restrictor is cut out, forgot about that,
yeah I know, id love a nice can , but I wouldn't know which one to go for ,and I'm not too wealthy at the minute either,i suppose I could stretch to a nice used un.............
have you got one by any chance ;)

I haven't no. You could go for dominator one off eBay. Cans crop up for sale on here from time to time too.

just an update;

bit fed up, so i had the carb off this morning, just to check the sizes of the jets, and I think they are stock,147 main, but I cant make out the number on the pilot,as its really chewed up.
AND blocked up solid, the carb was spotless inside,so I fitted 2 brand new genuine stock jets which I had ready to fit,147 main & 50 pilot,
fitted the new airbox cover, with the new foam seal, set the pilot screw and 2 1/2 turns out, and.......................................................................................................................................

its now a different bike,it no longer dies when trying to rev it up when cold, [ even with choke on ] it rides much better and revs out in every gear with no spluttering,

il feel much better riding it off road ,now that the cover is on the airbox

il have to do it all again when i can afford a nice can

somethings not quite right, but cant put my finger on it, Pilot circuit issues i think
everything is as last post, except the ttr now has a shiny new fmf q4, which has livened it up somewhat, quite a bit more oomph,it feels more responsive and rev happy,

but something is bugging me,and has done since ive owned it,

now bear with me because as you know i have trouble explaining myself;

to get the bike running at its best i have to have the pilot screw set at 1/2 a turn out........... any more than that and it progressively gets worse [ too rich ],but when starting from cold it takes ages to warm up enough to rev it up at all,but it runs very well on the road, another half a turn out on the pilot screw and it starts and revs up properly, but runs really rich and sluggish
this is something ive not come across before on any bike,

will a smaller pilot jet help?

cheers guys
