STOLEN - 2003 TTR 250 St Albans, Hertfordshire - WK53AYL
Permalink

I last saw my TTR parked in the undergound car park where I live at about 11pm on Monday 31st August 2015.

I got that unwated call this morning at 8.30am when a neighbour noticed the bike missing and damage to her car. I reported it to the police but I'm not expecting it back. I thought I was alright securing it with an Almax series 4 chain, Squire lock and anti-pinch pin, secured through the frame and locked to my Suzuki SV650. I also had a cheap disc lock and a D-lock on the front wheel. They either cut the frame or took apart enough of the engine to slide the anti-pinch pin through. The disc lock was broken and left on the floor but I couldn't not find the D-lock. The Suzuki was left untouched.

If anyone sees it around please call the police. The number plate is WK53AYL

VIN: JYADG02X33A006893

If it is being ridden around unchanged, the most distinctive features are the brown saddle bag behind the seat and the carbon-effect hand guard on only the clutch side handlebar.

I've attached some photos. The bike looks pretty much the same but I've taken the Redbull stickers off and there was no Renthal handlebar plastic foam cover.

I was still working on it and never really got a chance to try it off road properly. I had taken the battery out and the carburettor was leaking petrol and not working. I wonder if the theives will have more luck getting it running properly than I did.

Wow ttr's are popular ain't they. Its a shame mate I hope you get it back, proper horrible when you expect it there and it isn't. You did everything you could too with chains and dislocks etc, trouble with underground car parks is they can nick bikes without being heard too easy. Good luck.

That's really bad luck Rob cry

I hope you get it back in one piece!

The usual target of bike thieves are unregistered enduro or MX bikes. Easy to sell on or ship to the EU.

Thanks for all the replies. I really didn't think anyone would want to steal it as it was pretty rough looking and not exactly speedy.

I have a feeling the thieves had been watching for a while. It was the first night in a long time that my car was not parked up against it. Looking back, there were a few things over the last few weeks that now seem suspicious. I though someone had moved the mirror one morning. And then about two weeks ago the clutch lever on my Suzuki broke away in my hand when I was starting it up. I didn't think anything at the time but think they had probably already been trying to get the chain out.

Mark- I'd be grateful for any extra eyes around the area. I sort of hope it turns us somewhere but know it would probably be damaged beyond what it is worth to repair.

I'd like to get a replacement bike but won't now until I move. I would not dare keep it in that car park.

I've added the VIN to the original post.

I don't think its any more popular to nick than anything else.

MX and enduro bikes have always been the steal of choice haven't they because they are quite lightweight and have rubbish steering locks etc, plus sell on well for hooligan factor..

The police aren't investigating any further as there is no further evidence. I've not heard anything so now it's just the messing around with the insurance company. I've not had a bike stolen before but I am preparing myself to have to negotiate with the insurance company on the payout. Fortunately TTRs seem to hold their value quite well.

Losing out on the excess though. The bloody old bill are nearly as bad as the criminals, because there has been no easy leads/evidence their not going to bother looking into it, tut

I have dealt with claiming before but it was 13 years ago, it was relatively simple then they just wanted the police crime number and a photocopy of my licence and bike purchase receipt.

I had a call from Hertfordshire Police. The bike was found in Luton! I don't know what condition it's in as it has been taken to be forensically examined.
I had just cashed the cheque from the insurance company. They didn't seem that interested when I told them the motorbike had been recovered.

Does anyone have any experience of buying back a motorbike from an insurance company? Sadly I think it's unlikely I will buy it as I have nowhere else to store it except the car park from which they originally stole it.

You might not want to buy it back if it is badly damaged, I have only ever bought back one that was still in my possession so I don't really know...

They usually let you buy in back pretty cheaply, could always see if a forum member wants it? They pay up the buy back and go pick it up...

The insurance company are refusing to let me buy it back. No reason given, they just said after a certain point in time they will not sell it back.
If it's in a decent condition I can't believe they would just chuck it away, or even try to sell it as parts. So it may appear for sale at some point via the insurance company.
