Hi all, got a lowered 250 for my G/F to ride on our annual week trip to the Ainsa area of the Pyrenees but now she has taken the only logical way to make it even lower and lighter than I could whilst retaining electric start - swap it for a KTM Freeride! So now I use it for commuting in Bristol and trail riding in UK. It has a totally TTRs front disk, stainless Motad exhaust, braided hoses and is extensively lightened on top to make it easier for her to pick up after an 'off'. This includes much removal of not really required parts like rear master cylinder, replacement of pretty much all fastners with titanium, alloy and nylon (both bolts and tie wraps) and some extremely tasty chinese titanium shortie levers which I can't recommend highly enough at £20 a pair from ebay. Good quality hand guards, heat wrap on the bit of exhaust that melts your trousers if you don't have it, a 52 tooth rear sprocket, gopro mount on the renthal bars, home made protector on the bar brace, seat sculpted out to make it easier to get forward, frame guards and lightened alloy bash plate, holes drilled in anything that can take having holes drilled in it. For the commuting bit I have the blue LEDs on the side of the front guard and a string of white ones on the front of each hand guard, plus a string of red LEDs on the back that come on with the brake light and a massive LED in place of the front sidelight bulb. I don't have any problems with people failing to see me coming! Overall it's far better at both jobs than standard. It's just turning 20K miles so the engine is a little loose and the tank graphics bubbled to the point of there not being much left and the middle exhaust mount has been broken and bodged for years plus the frame is going to need repainting this winter as it's getting well rusty. So far it's never left me stranded and I recently did the Strata Florida on it with no problems despite water up to the bottom of the tank for hundreds of yards and having only road type trail tyres fitted at the time! I have lost the will to change tyres twice for every off road trip now so I just keep the road ones on to make it more of a challenge. However, I'm looking for a spare set so if anyone has wheels or knows if you can swap the purple ones in OK please feel free to get in touch.
I now know that you can swap purple wheels in and the lowering link is about to be removed and swapped for std as g/f never rides it now. I've just had a proper 5mm mount welded across the front lower frame tubes to mount the bash plate more securely, plus a big washer welded into the broken centre exhaust mount and nuts welded into the rear indicator mounts on the rear subframe - This has made the conversion from road to trail and back much faster. Next project is a single 4 way waterproof connector to simplify the electrical part of that process.
