I am writing this post from Pakistan, having ridden 20,000km here on a TTR250. I am with a WR250 and KL250. We already have a website so I won't bother copying and pasting everything over. Just go here:
www.21horses.com
www.facebook.com/twentyonehorses
The webpage includes blog and bike build and reasons for choosing a TTR.
Hi Brian, I would call her running, not fixed, which is the best we could do with just an 8,10,12&14mm on a dirt sidewalk in India. Your right - we did break all the gaskets and I am having to carry around a few spare litres! For now wifie has me sorted by sending a gasket kit to Iran from Aus. But if that gets hampered (looking more likely) I'll give you a shout for a kit to some eastern European state maybe. For now I'm trying to limp the next 5000km...
Thanks also to the website - the guides are a good resource when on the road.
Much admiration. Loving the pics. Think if I was going to do any kind of distance on my TTR I would have to upgear it, stick a decent screen on, and put on a airhawk touring seat, and change the tyres!..
I watched a few of his youtube vids and had a look at the blog. Its because the old ttr didn't mind leaking a bit of oil during some parts of the trip.
Just heard back from Pete/Johnny on his YouTube video page:
"Somewhere between Burma and India the TTR didn’t take to my cereal box gasket, and the bottom end ORing I replaced with no care, and the leaky valve seal, so I was putting 1 litre per 1000 km of oil into her. HeNCE. LEaky PETE."
Ive just spent the last hour of my life on the website & I feel like Ive got a bargain!
...what a trip, what a brilliant "can do attitude", coupled with some excellent (alternative) writing, supported by great photography!
If you get the chance to browse the site- I don't think you will be disappointed- it compares big bikes to small and modifications to be had..budget style!
