Hello, I'm just learning how to take apart my carb on my TTR, as I cleaned the jets after it sat all winter. When I put it all back together and turned on the pet**** to fill the bowl, it started leaking out of the overflow. I figured the float was stuck so I tapped on it and it stopped leaking. Then when I started it up, it revs really high when the choke is off, and less when the choke is on but still high. I haven't changed any parts, its all stock jets, so I figure something is stuck and letting too much fuel in. Maybe the float needle is not seating right?
Yes, I only took off the bowl and cleaned the main and pilot jet. I didn't think to look at the float parts. The pilot jet was clogged, so I thought I had it fixed but now it doesn't want to stop!
if you turn the fuel tap off on a bike it usually revs up as the fuel starts to run out. Making me think yours has a lean rather than rich mixture.
Did you check the carb inlet manifold was still in one piece with the rubber firmly bonded to the aluminium stub? A leak there can cause the bike to rev.
I am guessing that you have checked the throttle cables and linkages and they are snapping shut properly.
Can you think of any reason for the needle not to be sitting in the main jet properly or the slider not returning fully to the bottom?
