Sunny Peak district thrills (and spills) !!

Well, got the bike out and went for a nice ride out yesterday, along with my mate martin on his DR350 and My bro Dave (AKA Davo) who Christened his new TTR, which was totally reliable (unlike the rider)

I wasn't quite as careful remembering all the lanes, as I hace in the past,  but will make comments where I can, Here are a few pics....

Started Marple Way and headed over into New Mills

IMG_1618.JPG

Then Through Disley and Up into Whaley Bridge, I think this pic was on Shallcross road

IMG_1626.JPG

Somewhere up that way, before we were able to advise him of the dangers of ruts Davo had his first tumble.. The first of many that made me wish I had a action cam, Hehe...

IMG_1630.JPG

Fantastic views on the way down to Fernlee Resevoir

IMG_1632.JPG

Having too much fun to take pics for a bit, went around the back of Fernlee on the forest tracks, then into Macclesfield forrest area where we did a couple of favorites, Hacked way lane, Charity lane and Cumberland Cottage. By this time Davo had had three offs, matching my daily record.

Then on to Three Shires head

IMG_1634.JPG

The Bridge at three shires is a great spot to have a mini break and photo spot!!!

IMG_1635.JPG

A fat me with a slightly fatter Davo

IMG_1645.JPG

Then up to Flash Bar stores for a pastie and cup of tea, at this point, I realised that my Mudguard bag was open and I had lost £30 worth of spares and tools :(

Good opportunity to remove and dry out linings!!

IMG_1646.JPG

Foolishly we decided that Davo had been doing so well we could tackle Tenterhills.. How wrong we were

Here is the way in...

IMG_1647.JPG

The river crossing at the bottom

IMG_1650.JPG

And the way back up the other side...

IMG_1651.JPG

Believe me its a lot tougher than it looks!! I would have taken photos of the more difficult bits, but my frequent stops were as a result of having to pick up Davo and his Bike!! About an hour later we made it to the other end, fantastic work out!!

Then headed over around the back of Buxton with a couple of lanes on route and over to my Favorite spot.. A number of linked lanes that start at priestcliffe, and finishes going down Putwell hill, commonly known as Bushfields

Lovely scenic spot at the end of Bushfields for a nice piccie...

IMG_1656.JPG

Then went along Brough lane and down into Hope Before going up Pin Dale, which has an old disused quarry look about it.

Pic at the top pf Pin Dale

IMG_1677.JPG

Not far from the top of Pin Dale is Dirtlow rake which led us nicely to Mam Tor which we went down then back up again, before heading home..

IMG_1683.JPG

All in all a great Day, Davo did well for his first trip, but to my glee besting my number of tumbles in a day of three by falling off Eight times in total, but to be fair to him, four of those were on Tenterhills and one was just whilst he was de-mounting

I am going to post some short vids too when I get chance.....

Rick

Great photos! Very open countryside compared to Devon. Looks like you were having great fun with the guys - that's what trail riding is about for me - plus the pasty breaks of course wink

Roll on the vids biggrin

Great vids! Appreciate the effort, you managed to capture a paraglider in the background there too! Pretty cool how you managed to convince your bro into buying a TTR! When's he joining the forum?...biggrin

Fabulous countryside in the Peaks and superb lanes. What's left after the antis have TROd the best of 'em that is no

I don't recognise any of the lanes but I did the MCC Edinburgh Trial many years ago and the only place name I recall is Bakewell.

Do you know if any of the lanes you rode might have been included in the trial route?

Brian

PS I do recall that there were loads of gates cry

Hi Brian, Don't think we did any of those on Tuesday, but did a few near to the Calton one, if you look on the streetmap view, there is one to the east of the arrow, that starts at the Waterloo pub, did that one, and if you go north of it there is an area called Priestcliffe, that is the start of one of my favorite ones 'Bushfields'

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b05rcytp/countryfile-north-cumbria Part of this episode comments about the fight between greenlaners and anchovies, particularly in the salisbury plain area.

The last time I did that Tenterhills lane some unseasonal snow decided to dump itself on the lane just as I started off down those steps. It made the exit a little more "interesting" than normal. A lovely area.

I have only done Tenterhills once before and its a both feet down job for me, certainly going down the hard way, stayed on the first time, on this occasion I had a falling off, but only co's I was stuck behind my horizontal brother!!!! Hopefully off out again Friday, not sure we will do that particular lane then though!!!
