Attempted mountain crossing part 2
Permalink

I tried to make the mountain crossing form the northern side.
I met the wildlife ranger who was bringing 3 mountain bikers off the mountain and he told me that I wouldnt make it through because the heavy forest harvesting machines had ruined the track and turned parts of it into a  deep boggy mess. He said he has to rescue a friend on a dirt bike who tried to make the crossing.
He gave me his number in case I got into bother.
I was very cautious afterwards and when it got very muddy turned back and stopped at Doo Lough on Boleybrack Mountain ( Not to be confused with Brokeback Mountain) Got one photo and my phone died. Sunned myself at the lake for a while but felt a bit nervous because of having  no phone in the event of non starting bike or a puncture so headed back.
175 miles on the TTR in glorious sunshine today.
The bike is much more comfy than my old Honda Dominator. I did 200 miles on The Dommie one day and walked like John Wayne for day afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do need to change the tyres but am using it as my road bike as well as for trails at present. I'm looking to buy a road bike and when I do will then contemplate tyre changes. What tyres do you suggest??

On an off road tire that you will see 4000 miles out of
www.mitas.co.uk/product_details_32.htm
I have had 5000 out of a set before but that was 98% road on a BMW DAKAR so could see more out of a light TTR

Or a mt43 trials tyre will last quite well with road work: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pirelli-MT43-Trial-Pro-400-x-18-Tubeless-Rear-Trials-Tyre-/291425521790?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43da50907e
Or a dual sport tyre like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maxxis-120-80-18-62P-C6006-Rear-Motorcycle-Tyre-/131159221022?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e89b2e31e
Or if you wait till you have a seperate road bike, and you dont live too far from your trails then just get a full aggressive knobblie road legal enduro tyre like a ac10: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Michelin-AC-10-Motocross-MX-Motorcycle-Bike-Practice-Enduro-Road-Legal-Tyre-/141167742279?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item20de40cd47 smile
