Hey guys,

Been on this forum a while buying things (My TTR, EXHAUST and other stuff) So i thought it was time i said hello!

I have a OE White tank model, which I use daily!

This forum has been brilliant for me so far. Most questions I've had has been found.

But i do have one i cant seem to find the answer too.

Does anyone have the Yamaha Part Number for the blank keys?

Hi there and welcome to the forum!

I think the best way to get a new key is to buy the genuine article. Martyn at MotoWard is excellent to deal with and just needs the key number.

Here is a link that shows where to find the number - http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t50236179/removing-ignition-barrel-and-finding-the-ignition-key-code-n/

Cheers

Brian

My TTR key has never worked in my steering lock, is this because i was never supplied with an extra key for the steering lock? Or is the steering lock buggered?

The original TTR key would have fitted the ignition, steering lock and helmet lock. On metal-tanked models, it would also have fitted the petrol cap.

Gotta say that is one nice looking TTR! I take it it is now all up and running ok and you are happy with it? Nothing too scary to fix I take it?

Welcome to the forum.
Yamaha key blanks can be a pain as they used a large variation of key blanks, more than any other motorcycle manufacturer. The Yamaha prefix letter relates to the key blank profile and it can be one of six A,B,C,D,E & F .
The 5 numbers relate to the cuts on the key 5 cuts of different depths.
This changed in the late 90's but probably carried on longer with models that they continued to build like the TTR .

Pete, you should be able to get the steering lock barrel working with your ignition key. Remove the barrel and take it to a good locksmith, he'll get it matched to the ignition key for little money.

That's really useful to know Locky! It would have saved me a lot of bother over the years! Thanks for posting it up.

thanks nige! It's all good! Just still tinkering!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I've got a bent key, and only one. The new lock is loads from Yamaha!

I work in a Yamaha dealer so getting parts is easy, when you can find a part number !

I may give motoward a buzz and keeping trying to match keys at work

Tom
