the TTR is a great 80 tec bike with quite good suspension.. the WR250R is 21st centrey... no kick & a bit heavyer... other than those little draw backs it's a step foward...

Im not quite sure on the styling of the WR250R. They kept the nice widely spaced service intervals and it is nice and reliable with its fuel injection etc, but I have heard that the suspension is slightly lacking in comparison to what the TTR has....I dont htink it will have the same cult following....
I bought a WR250R a few years ago and they are very nice bikes. Even taller than the TTR and a tad heavier.
They make lovely trail bikes and are Yamaha's small capacity "dual sport" option.
They are very popular in the States but didn't sell well in Europe because of their high price - circa £7K - so very much the same mistake Yamaha made with the TTR250. I think they were only sold between 2008 and 2011 in the UK - not sure if they are still sold in Europe.
They are not an easy bike to work on as they are water-cooled and fuel injection. Lift the tank off and the wiring looks like it would look after a small aircraft
Also no kickstart as already pointed out.
I found that quite a lot of the after-market parts we sell for the TTR fit the WRR/X models and the only way to find out for sure was to buy one - so Totally WRs was born
When I was looking for a bike, eventually it pretty much came down to the TTR and the WR250, I think it would have been an older variant though with the steel frame, the 'F' version I think. In fact if one had not been sold just befor I phoned up about it, would probs have had one!!
I owned a WR250F for a time and, whilst it had a stonking engine, it was awful on the road. They only have 5 gears which are quite closely spaced (they are enduro bikes after all) and, when geared for trail riding, 5th gear was much too low and would buzz your butt on fire with only a small amount of road work.
Great bike for our local TRF "Fun days" which are totally off road but I always chose the TTR ahead of the WRF for trail riding so eventually sold it to a mate as it wasn't getting enough use to warrant garage space. Not really comparable to the WR250R IMHO.
Also, it wasn't the easiest bike to work on. I would challenge anyone to get the carb out in a hurry!
Forgot to mention that I spent a couple of weekends riding with Lyndon down at Torotrail when he had a new fleet of WR250Rs and myself and my mates were impressed with them.
Lyndon wasn't happy when Yamaha Europe stopped importing the WR250R and has since moved over to WR250Fs. He doesn't need to worry about a 6th gear as the riding is almost 100% off road
The WR250R gets ridden by my son Matt when he visits (he is taller than me!) - which means it rarely gets used other than an occasional trip to the shops to keep everything running sweetly
Oh dear - just looked at the report again - 15 stone back then. Hard to believe
Adrian (Biker) remains a great friend but sadly, because of health problems, hasn't ridden his TTR for a few years but we keep getting it MOTd for him - just in case one day he gets the urge and has run out of excuses.....
