What is the highest you have seen on a straight engine?
I bumped into a fellow TTR rider at the weekend and he had 40k on his one. Although he told me it had 4 owners so someone may have done some engine work in it I guess...
72786 km, 1994 OE, previous owner had this bike 14 years and I've had it a year, he said it hadn't been apart. Brian Ttrfan may know different as he would probably have supplied any parts/gaskets as previous owner always dealt with him. Doesn't look like its been apart.
One owner before me who never even de-restricted it, let alone touched the engine so I know it has never been apart.
In fact it never had its shim service until 33400 miles and the mechanic told me that all clearances were still within tolerance and no shims were needed.
Starts first time and still runs well.
Re-jetted and fitted with an FMF exhaust for the last 12k miles
2004 registered (blue) model that was not first used until 2006.
I have just ticked over 23,000 KM (14,290 Miles) on my 2009 TTR250. All I have done is replaced the sparkplug about 2 years ago. Everything is original and stock except the exhaust.
Just rolled over 96,000 klm on my 2010 ttr250 daily rider. Should I be concerned about the bottom end? It is running fine, maintenance has been done over the years including 2 exhaust valves, piston and rings at 68,000.
Is there a way to test big end play without taking the head/barrel off?
Either way, it'll be cool to see the odometer clock/roll over :)
If it's not knocking, and gearchange is ok, leave it alone! Testament to good maintenance. Well done. And welcome to the forum
Thanks :)
No knocking and gear change is firm with no false neutrals.
No sprag clutch replacement but some other bits... I'll list them for interest.
Bits replaced that aren't standard tyres/chains/sprockets:
Stator, rectifier/regulator, bushes in starter motor, 2 exhaust valves, piston/rings/wrist pin, head seats re-cut / clearances adjusted once at 68k, 1 x headlight bulb, 1 x clutch plates, 3 x batteries, front and rear brake disks (2) and pads (3)
Oil/filter I replace every 6 months at the start of the seasons, 10w40 for winter and 20w50 for summer (here in Brisbane, Australia can see 40 degree celcius days in summer). Oil is penrite hpr diesel grade (semi synthetic). Average 10k klm's a year so changes are probably around 5k klm's.
I do need to replace the timing chain, last time I checked the marks the intake cam sprocket lines were not level, probably a few degrees off parallel. Maybe I'll do that and see how long the bottom end goes :)
I do have the decompression plug oil leak though (minor) - is the metal replacement plug still available? I've tried 2 x yamaha oem plastic replacements but continues to leak...
Cheers,
Shane
