Hello everyone here.

Following friends' advices, last year I bought an old TTR250. According to the frame number it should be '93.

It ran quite well for 5 months or so, then it became harder and harder to start. Also I felt lack of compression once the engine gets hot.

I was reading through topics here for a while now, but only today registered to introduce myself.

Being a computer repairer, I have neither deep mechanics knowledge, nor Enduro riding experience.

Only some carb cleanings and a piston replacement on a cheapo chineze 110cm3 4stroke bike widely available in my country.

There is a day to begin biggrinSenaTTR250-93.jpg

I found all the manuals and illustrated tutorials here so clear and understandable that I plan to service my bike myself.

Just in case, some friends riding KTM and Husaberg may come to rescue, we live not far from each other.

Once I figure out all the needed parts, I'll order them. Already found out that all gaskets, piston rings, sprag clutch, cheezy cover bolts and some carb parts need replacement.

The cracks on top of the blue plastic fuel thank are waiting for me evileye (looks same as described in topic started by user chester10)

Will keep posting with questions in appropriate threads.   Thanks.

Welcome to TTR Land, Sena.

You sound capable enough to service your TTR - unlike computers you don't have to switch them off and re-boot when servicing them. biggrin

Remember to do things one step at a time and check thoroughly before, during and after each stage. confuse

If in doubt, ASK. smile

Welcome Mate, looks like a nice one.

I'm pretty new to all this TTR stuff myself so may be wrong here, but if you have a plastic tank, and the plastics are all blue, plus a kickstart, then I'd guess it's a good deal newer than '93 ? Nearer 2000 maybe ?

Someone else will no doubt give the correct answer wink

 Hi Sena and welcome.

Check your valve clearances first, after fixing computers you will find the TTR a breeze. :)

Cheers

i agree if iits ok cold id suspect the valve clearence

if its closed up once things expand with the heat they may be not closing and usualy sneaks up on you

And it's an easy fix

The frame number of my TTR is  4GY-009xxx ; according to "Dating from Frame Number" section

mine belongs to  "Open Enduro 4GY1 4GY-000101 to 025000 is 1993/4 "

Question to Guru and Veteran members : am I right ?

To find servicing it a breeze, I will need to acquire the Right tools. Will ask for some tools in the appropriate section later.

My valves are coked up like in sticky topic "Valve clean up!" by TTRfan. I will have to follow the same steps.

As I said in my previous post, I found all rubber parts like valve oil seals, gaskets and carburetor membrane leaking/hardened/dead.

The repairs will take long as I lack of free time these days.

Thanks for the warm Welcome smile

Yep - it was originally a "white" metal tanked TTR. The evidence is the frame colour and purple wheel rims. A previous owner has updated the bike with the later blue plastics. I expect you will find the front petrol tank mounts have been put on by that owner and will be a different colour or show evidence of welding.
