It just kept getting deeper! At this point I decided to lift it out...

 Chap I was with was further ahead. Had a smoke, turned up just after I had lifted it out! Good timing on his part. 

Jammed in pretty tightly it was too. I think the rut had been made by a Penny-Farthing!

That looks nasty, done that when I was young if it happened now I think I would leave there. Too old and knackered unfortunately. I take it the rain has been heavy then smile
