My bike has done 6,000k's (05 model), don't think the last owner has looked after it, I need to replace at least a stretched timing chain. Thought that while I'm there to do the guides as well (don't know their condition). Has a bit of a rattle on deceleration (hard to hear) but chain is still taught, bike still starts and runs like a gem - just the indicating lines on the top sprockets don't line up. If I can getaway with just doing the chain, I'd be happy
I parted with my first ttr with 70000kms on it. still all original inside the engine my current one is around the 20,000km mark with no need to open the motor at 6k.
ttboof , interesting , as im hoping to keep my ttr for many years and hope i gain that many KMS with little hassels. What % was road roading, how many times have you done valve shims , how many chains sprockets. How often oil change, any stator change , and rear shocks. I relize it has to do with the way you rode and conditions. My local bike shop said $250 au for a shim job. Does your ttr use any oil with 70,000 kms on it. Thnx.

my current ttr has only got 30000ks on it doesnt use oil havent had to shim yet recently checked still ok my last one i had to shim at 45000
I ride 90% dirt use castrol active 4 Oil change it depending on the riding as it's cheap might be after 8 hours sometimes 20 hours the ttr tends to let u know when it's ready the gear changes get a bit hard to get right . Air filter regularly but not too often my training with bosch taught me clean filters don't filter as well as a partially used one (clean ones are best for power ).
I don't find it's using any oil .only other wear and tear would be lower shock bearing wheel bearings the occasional chain and sprockets and about 4rear tires and one front per year .
would recommend new fork oil in all ttrs the stuff they use straight ups a bit suss , id recommend 10w fork oil it makes the forks work well for average to quick trail riding
I ride with a grade and world class riders but some one has to be last .
All comes down to basic care and enjoying the ttr . I sort of work on 70.000ks before considering any sort of rebuild .
as for the valves checking them is a fairly simple job . changing them isn't very hard but if you arnt into DIY , id recommend checking them your self if they need adjusting then spend the money
this forum is fantastic full of info and I am enjoying seeing ttrs in other parts of the world , but having all the feed back in one place sometimes problems such as stators can seem a bit more common than they are (no offence intended )

Thnx for that imfo. my blossom pillion wants to ride alot with me. Our total weight of 130 kgs. Im giving the ttr heaps through the gears till forth gear ( although i dont have too) Sometimes to give her a thrill. Guna take it easier now as its not much of an acceleration thrill with two on board , good you got high kms before any real problems. I hope to do the same. Thnx.
