This is a second hello!  The first I was enquiring about lowering a TTR and I was advised to get a serow.  Well the serow around where I live go for ridiculous money £2000 + approx.

The good news!  So I decided to get a ttr after all.  The one I got is 2003 blue that has a koubla link fitted and the forks lowered by about a cm so they just touch the top of the handle bars.  Sitting on the seat (standard) I can just touch the ground with the tips of my toes.  Rode the bike the 20 miles home and once I had got the hang of how light the bike was compared to my triumph and how direct the steering was and how first gear just get you rolling instead of taking you up to 50mph!. 

The not so good news!  Went out the next day to look at my new pride and start it up, no problem, then there was wisps of smoke so switched it off to investigate.  The smoke was coming from oil dripping onto the exhaust pipe.  Further looking revealed the front of the barrel was oily and the exhaust flange was at a funny angle.  This resulted in finding the top exhaust stud was stripped.  So of the see my friendly bike mechanic who said he could fit the stripped thread and find the oil leak.  But gave me a warning ‘do not bring a muddy dirt bike into my workshop.  The bad news is he cannot look at it till 8th July, but that gives me a chance to strip the panels and bash plate off and give it a good clean. 

So I hope you do not mind me posting loads of questions in the other sections!

It's not the end of the world - the oil leak at least.

It is more than likely the seal that's gone that bungs up the hole where the decompressor lifter used to go. CLICK THINGY

It's just a matter of levering out the old one and replacing it - OR - you ould buy a proper job and cure it for good.

You can turn the bar supports in the yokes through 180 degrees and they then clear the fork legs so that you can drop the legs up through almost as far as you like.

If you don't want to do that, you can get another 6mm by putting in spacers - see here

Another solution is to put in bar risers - see here.

Greeting widge from just down the road in sunny Hindhead

Seen quite a few hellos from Surrey lately, so we might have enough members for a local TTR meet one day ?!

hope the seal worked out.  Thanks to Martyn for that links, another thing to add to my winter project and TotallyTTR shopping list smile
