Sprocket wrong way around.jpg

I am helping out a friend getting his blue TTR back into shape and noticed peculiar wear on the chain slider and swing arm end cap. I took off the front sprocket cover and the cause was immediately evident - the sprocket had been put on the wrong way around as you can see in the pic above.

The sprocket had been fitted by a professional bike repair shop at the same time as a new chain slider was fitted a couple of months ago. Anyways up, the slider is now toast as is the bearing end cap plus the swing arm itself is quite badly grooved.

It is definitely worth owners having a go at some of these jobs themselves - they couldn't do much worse!

Couldn't agree more. I hope forums like these either send them broke or get them to lift their game. Last time I got a vehicle serviced (car) at a dealership they left the wheel nuts loose! No more.

Good point, I also have a road bike and put it in for sevice in March and the results were less than adequate.
So now do as much as I can myself.

Replaced my 14 tooth front sprocket with a 13 tooth to help stop sliping the clutch so much on hill starts when i take blossom for a ride. The front sprocket from mr yamaha was only finger tight. The tab was bent the way it should be and the nut couldnt loosen itself anymore. Bike had done 9000 km with no mods at all and orginal front tyre. Guess im lucky finding when i did as would have hated to find it loose and rattling down the track with damage to the spline
