I got my AU model brand new AND in the crate, exactly as it arrived from Japan, and put it together myself.
I didn't look at the header right away, thinking I might cut it after sorting the jetting for our altitude.
I never did cut it, and it seems to go ok - it can't be much of a restrictor.
[I think I even came across a claim somewhere that retaining the "header restrictor" actually improved low down torque!]
Interestingly, the bike shop guy where I bought it said they cut the header back a little as a matter of course on any TTR250 that they sell.
So quite likely the previous owner is being truthful when saying no modifications AFTER PURCHASE AND PRE-DELIVERY.
I thought that I would remove my muffler to find that restrictor at the end of the head pipe, but I just don't see it. Was it already removed? I doubt it cause the bike is literally currently all stock with zero mods. it looks clean in there, like know one was in there with a grinder, unless they did an amazingly clean grind job. Do any of u guys hav a pick of a header with the restrictor still intacked? Thanx.
If you cant see it when looking from the end its been taken out ,you can also take them out with a dremel and not touch the end of the pipe with a grinder
i have a 2006 auzzy model. bloke i bought it of said he did no mods But my restrictor was out. Someone said the dealership may hav removed it. There are photos on here if you search ( header pipe ) or ( restrictor). or even ( uncorking a TTR ).
No need to re-jet but you may want to lower the jet needle clip position (towards the sharp end) but it is not necessary. Removing it won't change the air-flow much.
Can't say whether or not you will notice the difference as I have only seen the restrictor on this site.
