Feedback on 54/150 Genuine Jets
Permalink

Hello all, hope you're all enjoying the forum as much as me. smile

Anyway, I installed the 54/150 jets that I bought from Brian (he ordered them) and thought I would let people know how it went. I have not taken it for a spin yet as I have a flat tire (the first one since owning it) but it sounds great in Neutral. Haven't touched the jet needle clip yet, hopefully I don't need to though. Still need to use the choke to start it so it's not too rich, that's a good sign. Idles sweet as and revs harder than expected! awwawwaww

Can't wait to take it for a spin. biggrin

Thanks again Brian!

Jarrah

I went from 52.5/150 6 Sigma jets to the 54/150 genuine Teikei. I must say it seems much better than before but still yet to try it out.

It is quite amazing the power you can get from these TTR250's when uncorked. For an air-cooled 250 they do VERY well indeed.

Glad you are as happy with your bike as I am with mine.

Jarrah

Yes the forum is great reading updates learning more and saving money not taking TTR to shops. These recent jets you bought, Jarrah how would they go in a standart 250 cc engine size with air box and tailpipe mods. Do you think i would get away with only fine tuning after jets installed doing the needle Setting only. I want to think the carby can only be removed once but that maybe impossible. If i were to leave it running abit rich will that do much long term damage. Of course if it sputters and carries on carby will have to be removed again. The TTR has 9000 km with all road riding and very little wear on engine. I want to uncork the beast but am worried its guna go wrong.  Its like i have a perfect running machine and if i tamper with it and bike plays up i will be depressed and panic. hopefully the beast will have a new lease of life in the next few months. Thnx.

Another thing i forgot to ask.  If the jets were enlarged and airbox done with hi flow filter. Then one day if i replaced tailpipe with standard item, for a quiet road cruise will it run super rich then. Im trying to have the best of both worlds. Thnx.

I think you would be better off with a 52.5 or 52 genuine. I have done a LOT of modifications to mine so I doubt that you will be able to use a 54. That said, it may work for you depending on the elevation that you ride at etc. A 150 main jet would most likely be a little bit too rich without adjusting the needle clip position closer to the lean setting.

A rich engine will not do any damage straight away but rather in the long-term. Over time though it will build-up carbon and you will need to take the engine apart to clean it or run sea foam through it. The usual sign is that the engine does not want to die straight away when switched off and runs like a hairy goat. On the other hand, running lean can cause problems in the short-term. This is because an engine relies on the fuel to cool the cylinder/piston/valves (along with air and oil in this case). If there is too much air and not enough fuel, it will cause the engine to over-heat and in worst case scenarios, burn a hole in the piston.

If you do enlarge the jets, you will have to swap them every time you swap exhausts, there is no way around it if you want it to run right.

After I take my bike for a spin and I am happy with it, I could sell you the 6 Sigma jets at a discounted price, say less than half price so about $17.00 AUD. Any good for you?

Jarrah

I am waiting until I take it for a spin to be sure, revving well in Neutral does not say much apart from that the pilot is correct. I am pretty certain that it will run much better though.

Now to get that tyre (spelt tire as well) fixed. wink

Jarrah i wont PM you untill you have test run your bike. What i could do with the TTR if i were to keep the larger jets in permantly is have the GYTR tailpipe on at least %50 of my running time and give it a good thrash when i do. If that will work. Ive had the tailpipe on and off a few times and its only a ten minit job. Anyway the uncorking is months away yet but it will be good to have the jets here ready on standby. Also i was guna go to a big bike swap meet at coolongatta this weekend And keep my eye out for a CT HONDA front rake but i cannot go.

 Yeah, sounds best.

I like your style Mark but maybe best to re-jet when needed. biggrin

I don't need a Honda CT front rack anymore but a rack to go on the seat would be be good, if you know what I mean. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin Thanks anyway though. I do however need to find an exhaust for it as the one on it is restrictive and it runs rich. If you see one on Gumtree or evilBay, let me know.

Cheers,

Jarrah

When I done the air box & put the short header pipe & GYTR pipe on
I used a set of number drills to drill the jets... Don't really know
what size jets I'm running... but it dose run and quite well...
according to the chart with the drill set...#52 drill = 148 main &
#73 drill = 49 idle ..
In the drill set the #54 drill = 140 ...but it was a tight fit in the 145 jet
that was in the carb... So how these drill sizes compaire to the TTR jet
scale is anyones guess....

Were they metric or imperial?  If they were metric and the conversion chart is right, The genuine Teikei jets will be the same on the scale.

Glad you are happy with your bike!
