The bite on my clutch is getting very close to the end of travel on the lever and i see the clutch arm on the engine end is sbout 20mm from the mark on the casing (its almost touching the bracket on the frame)

Is it worth taking the side cover off to adjust the clutch or will this make no difference and will i be best to fit a new clutch while im in there ?

You have to get the clutch cover off anyways Chris.

You can then check if the plates are still within specification and, if they are, just adjust the actuating arm wink

How accurate does the actuators(clutch arms) point, have to be above the bar cast mark on the casing??? confuseconfuse It is hard to see how in line it is when you looking at it through the side of the bike although you can get a rough idea...no...

I don't know Pete. I always do it whilst I have an engine out so it's easy.

If your clutch action feels OK then I wouldn't worry Pete. Just adjust it if and when you have to take the clutch cover off wink

Plate specifications from the manual below:

From experience, getting the adjustment right alters the angle of the lever etc and makes a massive difference to how much effort it takes to pull the clutch lever in.

See notes on Brians post above, sections 10 and 11, the information is there.

Adjust clutch so lever is in correct position. Reassemble cover, adjust cable to get biting point correct

No Need to take the basket out

You need to turn the adjuster number 2. To do this you must undo the lock nut, number 1

I'm not sure what the white arrow was pointing at. Maybe to see the thickness of the clutch plates?
As the guys say. No need to take the basket out to adjust the clutch. Just remove the clutch cover (don't forget to drain the oil or lie the bike on it's side!). Loosen the nut, put gentle pressure on the clutch arm against the spring with a finger (where the cable attaches) and turn the centre pin with a screwdriver until the clutch arm lines up with the mark on the engine casing. Then tighten the lock nut again and put the cover back on. (Don't forget to refill with oil! Easy to forget if you are in a rush)

Hi guys,

I have seen the clutch plates and they look good.

If the Adjust clutch so lever is not in the correct position, may cause the clutch to slide????

Yes, as it will not be working correctly. You will need to adjust it to the correct position and then adjust your cables to get the right bite on the lever.

Hi guys,

I have changed the clutch gasket, but the old gasket was very stuck in the clutch cover.

I scraped the best I could the older gasket and put the new gasket.

I filled it with oil and the oil became ripping through all the clutch cover...

Can i use a silicone sealant instead of the gasket?? Our with the gasket too??

You can use brake cleaner to remove the old gasket. Need to make sure its all taken off otherwise you will find oil weeping through.

Gasket sealants can be used but aren't recommended at the sealant can peel off inside the engine and block oilways

With the engine in place it is hard to see if the actuator arm pointer is in line with the casting mark on the engine case, but I think mine is about where the purple line is as shown in the photo.

What will happen if I do not adjust it?

Thanks.
