Canadian TTR250R...

Hi everybody! I just joined the forum. I picked up my 2006 ttr250r a couple weeks ago and it's in excellent shape. Still has original tires on it. I'm going to be installing a tusk dual sport kit in the near future and doing the air box and pipe mods.

I'm just wondering what the differences are between the Canadian model ( which I own) and the other models ( USA, uk, etc). I know that the muffler looks different. Is the gearing the same as the others? Any answers are greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Hi Terence and welcome to the forum!

If your TTR is missing lights, indicators, etc then it is likely to be the same as those imported to the US as pure trail bikes.

Jarrah's thread here might help.

Welcome to the forum Terrence handshake.gif

The differences are-

Suspension height.

The US model has a different headlight plug than the Australian or UK models as it only uses high beam but can be chopped & joined.

Brake light, indicators etc. not fitted to US models (obvious).

Seat height.

Wheelbase.

Minimum ground clearance.

Fuel capacity.

Dry weight.

The US/CA models do not have tool kit location.

The US/CA swingarm does not have a chain guard.

The US/CA models use a #50 pilot jet with a #137 main compared to the #50/#147 or #50/#142 in other countries. See here for more info on the carburettor- http://ttr250.activeboard.com/t49703293/carburettor-main-nozzle-differences/

There is different exhaust tips for different countries.

See more info here- http://www.ttr250.com/#Specifications

I think that is all (that I can think of).

Enjoy!

Jarrah

Great. Thanx. Lots of good info.

The tusk dual sport kit that I'm planning on ordering comes with the led tail/brake light. But I like the looks of the stock tail light much better. With my Canadian model, am I able to use the stock tail light as a brake light too? I heard there's a way to wire the brake accuatter switches so that it can be done. But can it be done on the Canadian model? Also, does this apply for using the high beam and low beam headlight settings? Thanx.

Yes you can rewire it so that the headlight has high/low. Yes you can wire the original brake light up rather than the crappy Tusk one. Here is how-

Jarrah, you da man!

Thanx. Excellent info. The PO cut the spark arrester out of my muffler. I ended up finding ( and buying) another muffler with the spark arrester still in it, a brand new dot approved front tire, and a spare rear fender with tail light, all for only $40! I only want the spark arrester for the inspection part of getting my bike road worthy. After that I'll toss it in the... You know lol. The front tire is literally brand new. That alone would've been worth the $40. I didn't need the rear fender, but it was all a package deal so I wasn't ganna turn it down. The only other things i'm ganna need is a dot rear tire, a front brake light acuator ( tusk kit only comes with one accuatter), and a switch with some extra wiring for the high/ low beam and the brake light mods. Pics will be coming soon. The bike is in great shape. The only things missing are the tank decals and swing arm decals. Everything else is there.
These TTR250's seem like great bikes. I had a 2002 WR250f once. Though it's a different animal than the TTR, I know I'll enjoy it. I already took it out on the main road to test everything out. It's very tight, smooth, and clean. Thanx again!

I would think that your bikes up there would be the same as ours. Assuming they are, I can tell you that both the headlight & the tail light have dual-filament sockets/bulbs & just need to be hooked up to power with a switch.

Not sure if you need turn signals where you are, if so maybe the Tusk kit is the way to go. But are there are many parts easily available to put together your own package. Check on ebay as well as  www.4strokesonly.com

Jarrah has already linked a write-up I did when I put mine on the road. Good luck!

I think the tusk kit is my best bet. Here in NB Canada we need blinkers, headlight with hi/low beam, horn, speedo, front and rear brake actuators, licence plate light, and mirror. The tusk kit comes with everything except the speedo and front brake actuator. I have a friend that's building a 3 wheeler out of an XR650L. He's hooking me up with the speedo and front Brake actuator as he won't be using them.
2 years ago, I had an 02 WR250f that had a Baja Design kit on it. Though i didn't license it for the road, it was street legal prior to that and it had everything required. I still have the PO's phone number. I'm ganna give him a call and see how much the kit was and if it came with everything, or did he have to buy the speedo and second brake actuator seperatly. The BD kit seems much more expensive though, so I'm definitely leaning towards the tusk kit. The BD did seem quite convenient to install though cause of its compact headlight assembly that has the blinkers attached, horn, flasher, etc.
