Flooding and bad weather in East Devon, UK
Permalink

Went out on the TTR to see what was happening flood-wise in my area.

There is a green lane (unsurfaced road) very near to me but its entrance was flooded and I decided not to venture further as I was on my tod.

The road to our local railway station (where the line runs alongside the Exe Estuary) had a bit of flooding but I missed high tide by half an hour so didn't see the worst of it.

A lot of damage has been done to our estuary-side raised walkway at Topsham and the owner of the house to the left of the pic below lost a huge corner section of his garden wall allowing the water in to his property and he was emptying it in buckets.

And there is more bad weather forecast no

Not good Brian, hopefully the rain will let for a while and give you all a break.

The main railway line into Devon & Cornwall has been all but destroyed just down the coast at Dawlish - see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26042990

Worse weather forecast for Friday!

Sunny hampshire not quite so sunny, proper raining at the moment but fridays forecast was good last time I looked. Last 6/7 weeks have been really crap here. Seems we've had a bigger increase in rainfall than Devon but I guess you get more rain than us normally so you're always nearer to capacity. It's stopping me working now and will cause me problems later. I need money to enjoy my bikes :) www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26050452

Seen the rail damage on Australian news. the southern half of Auzzyland can take all the water you want to

send down under.

No immediate end in sight no

Here is a link (scroll through the pics) and you will see the damage to our popular Goat Walk along the Exe Estuary at Topsham that I mentioned in my original post along with some pics of the guy's garden wall that collapsed.

The cost of repairs after the storms have abated is going to be enormous cry

I think I passed that vessel on Sunday Martyn biggrin

This BBC news page reminded me as to how long the bad weather has been going on this winter and how severe (in UK terms) it has been!

To have one sunny day yesterday was a blessing but weather back to normal again now - it's chucking it down outside at the moment!
