Having purchased a 1998 Yamaha TTR 250 Open Enduro yesterday, I'm looking forward to contributing to the forum and also receiving some valuable advice from time to time!
There is some work to do but as you can see the previous owner has done quite a bit of restoration/customizing!

Thanks for the welcome Martyn! Yep! She's bright!.......fortunately I do have a liking for orange having previously owned a Buell XB12R and 883 Sportster in flat track colours! At least I will be easily spotted on the roads and trails here! Please elaborate on the 'cheese' trait?

Wow - quite a looker! I would stick with the colour scheme. It looks quite professionally done.
The KTMs used in our local trail riding group have a habit of losing parts on the lanes. The side stands also have a reputation for falling off as they or the frame mounting seem to be made of "cheese" rather than metal
The finish on the panels looks very good. Any idea how they were painted?
Thanks Brian....its quite well painted throughout I must say including the frame. As far as I can tell the side panels have been prepped and just sprayed then the custom decals added. The metal tank is in a satin black and not gloss and looks good. All the work was carried out a little over a year ago. The bike had stood for 4/5 years unused outside in the elements! The 'mileage' is reckoned to be 26K kilometres....the speedo and/or sender packed up whilst the bike sat.
Aah.....I see about the side stands now......the one on this TTR seems very robust indeed to the extent that the previous owner had no qualms about hopping onto the bike via the left foot peg whilst leaning on the stand!......the switch has been disconnected by the look of it.
Had removed the lower black mudguard today (which was fitted for winter rain use) and swopped the upper black mudguard for the orange one which was thrown in with the deal.....it looks better I think.....even more like a KTM!
There are a lot of lightly corroded bolts/nuts etc which spoil the effect close up and intend to replace these over time.....along perhaps with some of the wiring which has been hacked around a little and oddly routed!

Nice......and a great place to hire a bike and enjoy the scenery!......it was on Zante where I first hired a Yamaha 'Serow'.....really liked the bike....

The bike looks very nice other than being TOTALLY the wrong colour and an eyesore. Looks like the previous owner went through a lot of trouble to have it all orange and black, still wondering why he would choose orange though?
Hope you enjoy your time on the forum, don't worry too much about the ''orange'' jokes

Yeh, its a shame that it was not brought up to standard trim.....the previous owner always hankered after a KTM but being seriously 'vertically challenged' had to rule one out....a family member had the bike whch was nicknamed 'Yia Yia' in Greek (Granny!) and decided to restore it from its neglected state into a nice trail bike that he could handle whilst enjoying the colour scheme he had grown to admire. Having lived previously in Holland I suppose I've grown accustomed to the colour orange and also really like the KTM colour schemes and of course their design/performance/lightness! Had doubts about KTM reliability/servicing schedules and could not justify the outlay......there is also no local KTM dealer here......one has to go to Athens which is a good 5 hrs drive away!........its a compromise .....and a 'Tangoed' TTR is better than nothing! :)

Yamaha used similar to KTM color. A TT 500 i had new in 1980. Although the head light is after market. Tank and gaurds were orange. Got away with registering bikes easily in australia back then.
Enjoying my TTR on local back roads! A few more jobs to do including fork gaiters and seat re-profiling but they can wait while the weather is this good!
Thats Oregon NFL eh?.......wouldn't mind a sticker! No lowering kit at all.......the seat is low ....especially the very front part and with the bum stop behind I feel I am pushed too far forward when sitting.....on longer stretches when not standing I sit on the raised section......I'm not that tall but am finding that I could easily have an inch or so added to the seat......its the next job on the list! I'm happy with just one foot down......even one toe-tip KTM styleeee!! ;)

Finally got a replacement seat cover in a decent material fitted along with being raised some 5 cm......feels much better now despite being a short in the leg! The new Michelin T63s feel good on all the loose dirt roads. Just need to slip on some fork shrouds at some point.
