What's up fellas? New here so I figured I would pop in and say Hi. I picked up my TTR a few months ago with plans to teach my woman how to ride a motorcycle. She is expressing very little interest in it. Anyway, I race hairscrambles and enduros on my KTM 250 exc. Last Saturday I was helping the club set up the course and pre-ride it and busted the peg off the KTM. So the race on Sunday was out. The club mentioned that they needed helpers/sweepers on race day so I got the bright idea to bring down the TTR and give a hand because I wasn't racing anyway.

This is about where my mind gets blown.... The TTR is fantastic in the woods! I mean downright awesome! I was keeping up with my class on dual-sport Dunlop d606's. I couldn't believe how capable the bike was. The day was rainy so the terrain was classic, muddy, New England roots and rocks. I can't even imagine how good the bike would have been with a real tire on it. So, because my TTR is all dual-sported out and plated and the like I'm thinking I will do a few extras to it to get it woodsy race ready and maybe even do an enduro on it next year. Right now the plan is just simple stuff like bigger pegs, bark busters and some real tires. I'm thinking the mt43 trials pirelli out back because it keeps its DOT rating and the MT16 front, also because it keeps a DOT rating and I will still be using the bike to put around town. Possibly re-spring or a front end conversion. The conversion would be to keep the bottoms of the forks tubes from bashing something because they stick out so low, not really for performance.

Anyway it's nice to know there is a community to turn to for some info on this unknown gem . Thanks!

Welcome to the forum JC and what a great introduction biggrinbiggrin

When I was younger and fitter I used to ride enduros on the TTR and it is surprising how well you can do just pottering around, staying upright, not having to refuel every couple of laps, and not getting stuck or breaking down wink

Thanks Brian! It's definitely capable of it. The big worry would be jamming the bottom of the forks on a rock and busting them. Has anyone tried to fit a 4" trials tire on the bike? The trials tires don't use the normal measuring markings so I'm a little unsure if it will fit.

Also, when riding at a steady speed on the road the bike surges. It's not really noticeable offroad. When I bought the bike it already had an airbox mod but stock jetting. I rejetted to some spec that I found online and it didn't help and maybe made it worse. I thought maybe the main jet carrier was modified because the holes drilled in it weren't even, they looked home drilled. I ordered a new one to find out it was the same, not a fix.

Welcome to the TTR world, Maxim_X.

In the UK the TTR riders tend to laugh at the Orange riders who prop their bikes on ANYTHING
when their prop stands drop off, so I now hear that the footpegs drop off too?? biggrin  biggrin

No offence meant, honest. smile

At the recommendation of one of my long-standing off-road riding buddies (who has several dual-sport TT-R250s), I have just fitted new Shinko SR241 Trials tires on mine (3.00x21 front; 4.00x18 rear).  I haven't put any miles on these yet, but his bike seemed to perform exceptionally well during our 9-day DP trip in Colorado (in and around Breckenridge) this past summer.  The riding was 90+% offroad, and he was always at or near the front in a pack of water-cooled hot rods (mostly KTMs and 250Xs).

Welcome Maxim x, you guys seem to be lucky over in the states with all the trails. There doesn't seem to be many up here in Scotland. I may need to cross the border and go down Alston way.
