I know it's a common issue, the wearing of the front brake hose where it rubs on the guides. I was wondering if replacing the front hose with a metal braided one would resolve the issue? I know the HEL or Venhill ones are still plastic coated over the braid, so I guess this might still wear through, but once through that, would the metal braiding wear out the guides which are a cheaper component to replace! Perhaps the smaller overall diameter of the braided hoses means they flex better and don't rub so much anyway?
I have a braided Teflon coated stainless steel front brake line and do not have issues with it rubbing on the guides or the Teflon coating. It seems just as slippery the usual rubber/plastic outer sheath but better protection and improved braking.
