From the two I have taken apart- they don't clog up easy. In fact both were quite clean and only needed a quick clean to get out the fine stuff.

I guess it all depends how regularly the oil has been changed.

The only time I have found anything nasty is when the engine had met with an untimely end - usually through low (or no) oil cry

I wouldn't take the clutch cover off a healthy engine just to clean the strainer.

The reason I ask these questions as to become familiar with my bike and from time to time I ask my step father as he worked for a yamaha motorcycle firm for nearly 40 years and maintenance is paramount.

Servicing is top priory in my book and grease all bolts and to be honest my bike seemed's to have been looked after and not giving me a hard time

Brakes have now been serviced and just going round to the general checks, looking forward to going out again on the lanes as I had a blast last weekend with herts trf lads
