I occasionally get asked about these and what's better than to show some pics. On this occasion not my pics but on a smart looking Raid advertised on eBay - see http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221311766716&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:3160

Kenny, this picture shows a detail from the TTR manual
The chain is adjusted by moving No 3, the chain puller (snail cam).
This is held by a castellated nut that is spanner tightened and has a split pin passing trough to stop any loosening.
So that the split pin doesn't fall out it's usually bet 90 degrees.
The adjusting cam isn't bent though.

See in pic number 6 that the chain adjuster has a 90 deg. bend in it.
Mine is exactly the same, I thought it had been damaged or abused ??

I have come across a few (not very many!) snail cams with the turned up ends and my guess is that it was to make it easier to move them.
Don' t really know why it's bent and why only the right hand side one and why only on some bikes?
I can see how it would make it easier to rotate but why not on the left side as well?
This is what my ones look like, there are no signs of abuse or scrapes, no marks from having been put in a vice and battered over.
Since seeing other bikes with exactly the same adjuster I can only assume that it was supplied and available like that.
I have seen pics of some where folks have tried to straighten them up but does not look very pretty.
Thanks, Kenny, it's the first time that I've seen one like that.
There again, I don't really go around looking at people's snail cams to see if they're bent or not.
Even at my tremendous age I learn something new every day.
Why is there only one adjuster bent? Well, it looks like only one in your photo.

It is to stop ''wild swinging gorillas with hammers'' from making a mess of the castled nut. HAHA
