The three headlight wires are black (earth), yellow and green. Can't recall whether yellow or green is main beam but my suggestion is to wire up the headlight and if they are the wrong way around just swap them over
I'd like to mot this bike does anyone have any tips on what to lookout for.
Usual suspects to check are:
front and rear wheel bearings - shouldn't be any play
wheels are straight with no flat spots on rims or loose spokes
tyres are road legal (e.g. don't have "Not For Highway Use" stamped on them)
no play in linkage, shock and swing arm bearings
chain and sprockets are serviceable
split pin in rear axle castellated nut
tank cap seals and can't leak petrol
forks and rear shock work properly
legal exhaust and no leaks
legal number plate and a reflector fitted somewhere
if you are going for a full MOT (rather than a "daylight" one) all lights must work including indicators, number plate light plus front and rear brake switches
steering head bearings mustn't have play or be "notchy"
horn
throttle must return smoothly
no loose nuts/bolts/parts
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. There are MOT manuals online if you want to go into depth.
Try to use an MOT station that understands dirt bikes. Your local TRF guys will tell you who they use and trust to be sensible.
I think the Euro blue TTRs are slightly different Jarrah. There is provision for a sidelight which uses the blue wire and a splice into the black earth wire.
It sounds as though you have a US import but I can't see enough of your TTR from the pics to judge.
Lots of stuff "missing" on the US model compared to the Euro version such as the kickstart. Even some of the frame tabs for a tail light, toolbox and, I think, rear footpeg sockets are missing.
The loom, unless it has been replaced or modified will not have the full complement of Euro connections.
The US silencer is different (spark arrestor?) as is the headlight.
The US model had a tripmeter/odometer rather than a proper speedo and warning light binnacle.
Little update halo headlight working correctly and I belive it looks very nice what's your thoughts? I've only wired the yellow green and black wires.
Thanks for your help very very usefull I appreciate all your info.next up for me is the horn, , I'd like to mot this bike does anyone have any tips on what to lookout for.

The pic below is of the headlight harness:
That looks as though it has been tampered with. If it really was fitted standard, I would think that it would splice into the speedometer illumination so that it stays constantly on when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
There would be a slight difference in performance between US and UK considering that US are fitted with a size #50 pilot jet and #137 main jet compared to the UK/AU #50 and main jet #147. Also the exhausts have a different tip so that may affect the performance slightly.
Jarrah

Question that needs answering- do you have a US, UK or European model?
To assist with this- Decode the meaning of your Yamaha motor vehicle VIN by breaking down the unique pattern of numbers and letters. For example, if the VIN starts with "4" or a "1" then your Yamaha was made in America, a "2" stands for Canada and "3" stands for Mexico. Vehicles made in Korea, Japan, England, Germany, Italy and Brazil would have vehicle identification numbers beginning with "K", "J", "S", "W", "Z" and "9", in that order. The secondary character of the VIN reflects the motor vehicle manufacturer, which would be a letter "C" for all Yamaha motor vehicles.
There you go - a pic of a brand new "blue" UK spec headlight complete with wiring harness showing position of headlight wires and the blue and black leads going to the sidelight.
I think you are right Jarrah in that the sidelight pulls its power off the speedo illumination feed (blue wire).
Regarding the frame, are you missing the tabs I listed Michael?
Hi guys first letter of vin is J belive that's Japanese the tenth digit 6 believe to be 2006 is this info correct and can you recommend a good rear tyre 50/50 road/of. I wasn't planning on indicators night mot there not needed please correct me if I'm wrong all opinions welcome.

My understanding is that if a bike was fitted with them as standard, as is the case with TTRs, then they must be fitted and working.
The reasoning behind having to fit them to a TTR is that it is built to carry passengers (dual seat and rear footpegs) and that arm signals by the "driver" may not be seen or be clear to following drivers.
I know many TTR owners get their MOTs without indicators but I think that is down to the person testing and how rigid they apply the regs - or how well they know them. Best to check with your MOT station before taking it in for the test just to be sure you don't waste a trip.
Frame first letter is J tenth digit 6 does that mean its made in Japan, 2006 model . fitted my horn today works fine. I'm told by local garage that if indicators are present they have to work correctly But minimum requirement you don't have to have them, might fit some at a later date for practical reasons depending on wiring nx up number plate light I have two wires black and blue are they indicator or plate light?

As far as I know all the TTR were made in Japan. Are you able to check the frame as I suggested?
Tail and brake lights are yellow and blue. Can't remember which way around. What colour wires have you got from your tail/brake light? If you have the original TTR unit the colours just need to be matched.
Indicators are brown and black on LHS and green and black on the RHS.
Have no indication wiring only black and blue. I belive they may be for number plate light.
Yes I've checked the frame there are no rear foot pegs,no tabs for lights ect under rear mud guard, no kick start
The speedo is odometer type. Is this a u.s model ?

Almost certainly a US import as they didn't have indicators whereas the Australian models did. There is a company in the UK that has imported a few - Culpepper or something like that? Was the previous owner on the V5 a UK person?
The blue wires in the loom tend to be constant live whilst the ignition on so I am certain its the tail light feed. On the UK model, the blue feed also goes to the number plate light.
You will need to sort out brake lights for the MOT I would have thought.
Good morning pic of my back light all works well break light tail light stays on with ignition. I do have two lose wires was hoping they will run my number plate light blue/black maybe previous owners have used these wires before I'll take photos nx opportunity.
What would be the best way to change the oil and what oil do you recommend please.
