By-passing need to have bike in neutral in order to start it..

Hi All

I am 99.9% sure that on all the bikes I've ever ridden (road) it has been possible to start the bike in gear with the clutch leaver held in...am I wrong?!?

My TTR will not allow me to start the bike in gear.  This is a right pain after I have stalled the bike especially as it seems very difficult to find neutral when the bike is hot.  Is there a switch or something which can be removed/by-passed to allow the bike to be started in gear?

Thanks for any advice you can offer

Scott

You should be able to start the TTR in gear with the clutch in (if the stand is up). My guess is that your clutch switch has slipped out or is malfunctioning.

What Brian suggests is the problem. You can take the switch apart and clean it (or rejoin), or just unplug the clutch switch and join the two wires leading from harness together to bypass it.

I don't seem to have anything there!

So what can I do as there is no switch or wire?!?

Thanks

It is worth fitting a proper switch in my opinion - see http://www.totallyttrs.com/NOS/index#clutch_switch

Otherwise you need to take the tank off and put a closed loop of wire on a connector block to pop into the empty clutch switch connector block wink

So, either (a) fit the proper switch (I think the best idea as it prevents you accidentally putting the TTR in gear with the clutch out) or (b) bypass it.

So, the second option, how do I go about that and why does the tank need to come off?

The connector block that you need to get to is under the tank.

I would post a pic but am being picked up at any moment to go trail riding in North Devon for the day biggrinbiggrin

Maybe someone else can oblige?

Cheers

Here is a photo to verify the location of it...

Now a close-up...

If you want to bypass it just connect the blue wire with the yellow stripe to the blue wire that is beside it (seen in picture above).

Enjoy!
