I have a 2001 TT-R250 with what I gather is a relatively common problem. The tank has a very long crack along the mold-line. I took it to a plastic welder who tried a test weld and said that the plastic won't take the weld. I'm stuck as nobody seems to have a tank to fit this bike, nobody makes a replacement tank to fit this bike, and while I've seen posts about using an XR250/400 tank, from looking at the ones I've seen, all have two threaded bosses under the seat. My TT-R has four threaded bosses under the seat - two for the seat bracket, two for the strap bracket that holds it to the frame. I'm deserperate - a used tank, a new tank - anything that will get it back up and running would be awesome.

Thanks petenz, I had a look at all that info. I also looked up lots of tank suppliers and not one I found had a 10 litre standard size TTR 250 tank. They just don't seen to make them. I am not paying a Mr Yamaha Australia price of $815 dollars for what is $1 of plastic moulded for 8 seconds ( I am a toolmaker by trade). That's just insane. Then there is the Acrebis 22 litre tank at $359 and $45 for them to post it to me from coffs harbour which is in my own state. Only cost me $39 to have chain and sprockets posted from America. Plus I really don't want a bigger tank. Checked out some wreckers and again come out a blank. Not to sure about putting a honda tank on the yammy, just doesn't seem right plus they still want big bucks and the wife wants the dishwasher fixed before I pay that much for a tank. I thought thats what she was for. So having no other options I got on to youtube and found myself learning how to plastic weld. The result is that it's no longer leaking, Looks ugly but I don't care and I don't know how long it will last. But for now it has given me some more use out of the tank. ( you may notice in the pics that the crack was not as large as the repair... It got larger after I punched it
I have a 14.5L Clark tank that should fit the TTR as it's for the same year/model that the 22L Acerbis thanks fit.. "05 XR250/400R" not tryed it yet..
why not find out what year XR the Acerbis 22L fits..go to the bike wreckers & get a XR tank for that year as it should fit the TTR if the Acerbis 22L Honda tank fits them..
