Recovering old side panels

I sometimes have side panels that are sound but tatty.

I have been looking at various solutions but the simplest and most effective method seems to be to fit decals that pretty much cover the whole panel.

Here are the panels cleaned, with any rough spots smoothed down and thoroughly cleaned with clutch & broke cleaner.

Here are the panels with a pair of Enjoy Mfg decals ready to fit.

The next pics are of the decals fitted and the panels on the TTR.

The finishing touch was to add a small round insignia.

The decals certainly do a good job of "cleaning up" the covers. Thank you.

get a heat gun on the plastics where they have faded, works very well on car plastics too,
obviously dont go in full heat and stay on one spot, work around a small ish area with gentle heat, you will see the colour return.

The side panels looked good enough for me to put on the rest of the kit which I think looks good.

I had fitted an after-market front mudguard so the Enjoy Mfg decal wouldn't fit. Also, the headlight decal is for the white or US style headlight surround so that one also got put back with the spares.

The OE headlight surround is just the same as the US one (only in white rather than blue) so the Enjoy Mfg headlight decal will fit  wink

Hi Brian,

Am I correct in thinking that the stickers for the side panels, front+rear mud guards and headlight would fit the OE?

cheers
Ian

Yeah, same guards, different color. Not so sure about the headlight shroud but I don't see why not.

I needed a headlight decal for the TTR I rebuilt with my brother-in-law. The bike is for him as he wants to try his hand at trail riding wink

I had a couple of Enjoy Mfg decals spare that are designed to fit the OE shape headlight and, as I had nothing to lose, I had a go at trimming it to fit the UK headlight surround. I think the result is quite good.
