A beautiful summer's day, and a day off work - what to do?
As no one else was out to play I decided to ride a few simple trails on my own - here I am on one just off the Miltary Road in the heart of Northumberland.
So what is everyone's view on riding the trails alone? Not ideal I know, but do any others do it?
I ride alone most of the time, used to go out with groups , but the appeal soon wore off, and my riding buddy (lost boyscout) moved to Devon . I find riding alone very relaxing and I can go as far as I want at my own pace, also find that walkers cyclists and horse riders more friendly. The wife does worry so I leave a route and check in by text ever few hours if I remember, the secret is not falling off and hurting yourself . But most of all have FUN
Many years ago, I took off alone on my brothers bike (TS-125 I believe). We took turns riding it because I didn't have a dirt bike of my own at the time. I was going way too fast and hit a large jump and pulled back WAY too hard and landed with the bike on top of me. This was the late 1970's, back before anyone knew anything about back-flipping over a jump. When I woke up, I realized I had been gone for quite some time ...

P.S. Please Ride dirt ONLY when you have a mouthpiece in your pie hole. I am now chewing on 1 side because I forgot ...once.
I have done trail riding alone when my wife and I have gone camping (she doesn't ride), but I try to be very conservative and I do let her know where I am intending to go and for how long. It just isn't convenient to bring a buddy and an extra bike along. I do the same thing if I am going fishing and following a stream by foot.
I never ride alone now ,i went out alone in the summer just before i moved did a run on my then local lane as i knew i mite not get the chance again ,ventured off the lane into some bracken and dropped my old kdx into a four foot deep ditch !!
Took me over an hour to wrestle the bike out and if id been riding my quad or the bike had landed ontop of me id still be in that ditch six months later
Thousands of miles on solo rides in the boonies (which is full of bracken, I suspect) and somehow I've survived. I think the locator is a good idea (and may help get your wife, etc. comfortable) but may not be much help if you're in a more remote canyon. I plan to try SPOT this summer, any experiences with SPOT or other devices in the western US?

Giz a shout mate as I'm out all the time around the northeast
. I find riding alone very relaxing and I can go as far as I want
