i am new to the forum as a member but have read heaps of your helpful posts as i am new to bikes:)
i am currently waiting on parts so i can change out the sprag clutch on a ttr250 i bought just over a month ago along with lots of gaskets and o-rings
i have already fixed the carby after having it in and out about 11 times :P i found that the float was set too high and thats what was causing it to not want to start i test rode the bike and it was fine but i picked it up a week later and it was a different story lol
im guessing he swapped the carby out after i rode it
anyways she now runs beautifully and i just want to get rid of the loud clunk from the sprag clutch
btw im also a fitting and turning apprentice 3rd year and spend most my time on a lathe and mill and would be more than happy to help others by machining up parts and problem solving common ttr faults by making new more reliable replacements :) such as the decompressor plug :)
oh btw i already have fitted a b&b bashplate and barkbusters and pro taper 7/8ths bars aswell as a magnetic sump plug and a magellen gps on the bars :) when i was bike shopping i got on the ttr250 and loved it
If you need any parts they can be bought cheap from www.partzilla.com Shipping is cheap to Australia and as long as you don't go over the $1000.00 limit you will not pay for customs etc.
I will be interested in a decompressor plug from an Australian member as it will help cut the cost of shipping down- let me know when they are available and how much please.

slw, Welcome sir Lotsa great advise for anything TTR related can be found around here. You will be amazed at the tricks and tips these folks have posted. Sounds like you will fit right in! If you like, fill out your signature line with your year and exact model, so these animals can respond to your particular species of TTR. Most of the years and parts are similar, but not all. Oh and they like pictures, if you can or are able! ENJOY! greg
just a heads up took my blanking bolt out to check the bolt size to measure for a locking groove on the decomp plug and with a stuby 1/4" rachet and 3 fingers stripped out the thread as it had weakened and corroded to the bolt so id suggest a press fit aluminium plug with like .1mm crush and that wont leak and you could always drill and tap it and put a bolt in there to pull on if you wanted to remove it although that may bind i could also make up so press fit plastic blanking plugs that are solid so will last a lot longer than the pathetic stock plastic plugs
