Identifying Mystery Front Forks..........

Hi,

In order to grow old naturally I am in the process of putting a disc front brake onto my XT500 - the existing single leading shoe brake is painfully inadequate

Screen Shot 2013-02-25 at 5.02.34 PM.png

I got hold of a pair of forks from a wrecker (who shall remain nameless but not blameless

He appears to have supplied either the wrong wheel and / or the wrong caliper as the caliper supplied does not fit

I think that the forks are TTR but am not sure. They have a number of distinguising marks

Apologies for a really clunky post - just getting used to this place

Could I prevail upon your collective knowledge in order for me to get an idea of what these forks are from (You may save me from a horrid end!)

Hopefully my problems can be solved via the purchase of a TTR250 Nissin caliper but I want to make sure first

Thanx - Michaelc54

1. 6mm Drain plugs at the bottom of the fork legs, small securing bolts in the base of the forks and a really tight fit between the disc and the caliper mounting bracket

2. Mounting brackets for a disc cover

4. Chromed triple clamps

5. Serial numbers under the triple clamps

5. High rise bar clamps

Hi Michael

Sorry but those aren't TTR parts. Pic of TTR yokes below. Very different.

Fitting the fork yokes 5 December 2011 007.jpg

Same with fork legs. Pic of TTR legs below

photo number 2 says its certainly not a late model blue TTR250.
mine has no disc cover brackets, different profile for axle mount, slightly different caliper mounts,
no drain plug, different profile at bottom end of fork.

Hi there and thanks

You are certainly right, they are very different however, the caliper mount does look very similar dimension wise

I wonder if they are from an early model TTR?

A TT250 maybe but not from an early TTR. One of the great attractions (for me anyway) is that there were very few mechanical or chassis changes through the TTR's production run from 1993 to 2012.

Thanks, the search continues!

Any further input, especially around decoding the serial numbers would be gratefully accepted!
