We ride the Egyptian deserts with my wife. I ride a KTM Rallye 660, and my wife rides the TTR250. It is a great bike, fitted with a 18L Acerbis tank and a free flow exh system. The carb has begun to act up and I have been searching info about swapping for a Keihin FCR 37 (that's how I ran into your forum here!). So, I will start browsing now, but if anyone has helpful links, please put them up. Will it fit (for size), and is it worth it (for extra punch, fuel economy?), or should I just rebuild the orig carb? Cheers.
Hi Sami and welcome to the forum! 3 registered users in Egypt now
Regarding the carb, my advice is always to stick as far as possible to standard as far as the carb is concerned as it makes maintenance, repair and replacement plus diagnosis of problem so much easier!
Unless the TTR has done a huge mileage it is unlikely to be worn. I suggest that you get it off, strip it out, give it a good clean (use an ultra sonic cleaner if you can) and stick it back on and see if the problem has been fixed
Thanks for the tip, Brian. I figured as much. I just need to order the seals and diaphram for it. They've gone a bit stiff, to say the least. And yes, the TTR is quite popular here. I have seen several around.
One other thing that bugs me is the chain slider on the swing arm. The original ole disintegrated and a replacement one from Yamaha costs nearly as much as I paid for the bike! I did see a link to an aftermarket unit... may give that one a go...
