Changed the oil and filter, air filter cleaned all lubricated cables etc clutch was adjusted in the snow when wouldnt go now im a little lost whats next clutch plates? Carb strip any help please

It does sound like your clutch plates are slipping. If it revs out well with no go the clutch plates are at fault-highly likely.

Make sure that the clutch is not over adjusted as this is most likely the cause. Adjust the clutch cable leaving roughly 10-15mm free play (looseness)or the clutch will slip as decribed.

Make sure you are NOT using a multi-grade car grade oil as this will ruin the clutch plates. Use motorcycle oil at the reccommended grade for your climate.

Click here for a guide to replacing the clutch plates.

Next thing to check is your carby intake boot. You can test this by cleaning around the boot, carb & surrounding areas then spraying WD40,carby cleaner or similar around it & the carb. If it picks up in revs it is at fault.

Next is the carby clean. Your main jet could be clogged. Clean carby thoroughly with carby cleaner & make sure your diaphram pump is working correctly.

If the motor is running well though skip steps & proceed to re-adjust/fix the clutch.

Let us know how you go wink

If you need a full repair manual let me know & i'll send it to you in an email. You will have to send me your email address in a private message though. BM Steve has a live download link  also. Of course you would need a pdf. file reader like adobe reader to read it or you can have it printed like i did.

On a side note don't forget to check out Brian's store for all those goodies. Keep aye eye out for updates on specials ect. wink I have been smile

Oh welcome to the forum BTW

Welcome to TTR land, Chris

It sounds very much like a badly adjusted clutch that your TTR is suffering.

This is how the handbook describes clutch adjustment :-

Clutch adjust.jpg

Regarding the correct oil, the recommendation:- "Haynes Manual Recommended lubricants for Engine/Transmission are: Type: API grade SE or SF multigrade oil, Viscosity: 40-degrees F(5-degrees C) or above:20W40 or 10-degrees F(-10-degrees C) or below:10W30" but it's important that you don't use the multigrades with additives for car use - a TTR clutch does not like the slippy add ons that car engines use.

Actually that stands for most engines with wet clutch. Stay well away from synthetic oils as well as the clutch will just slip.

Thanks for the replies carbs been off today and new sparky just in case was quite grey/ black anyway always use 10/40 oil so can't see a problem there?
Carb was clean nothing wrong there tried the clutch again still the same adjusted always just to make sure so my guess its the plates its 23 years old but only 3000kms so thats a lot of standing about!
Brain thanks ive got an order to place that i keep forgetting about so will sort this week and some plates will be on there as well
Cheers
