Airbox snorkel wanted now found, thanks guys!

I am looking for the airbox snorkel for my 1995 ttr, I am assuming they are the same on all models, there should be plenty if these laid under people's benches!

I am beginning to wonder if you have a later carb from a blue TTR fitted that would have had a 147 main jet as standard?

Don't ask me how the carbs differ as I haven't got a clue but it is likely that the main jets aren't interchangeable hence your TTR running weak with a 137 jet.

If your taping up the intake hole hasn't made much of a difference then I am thinking a snorkel may not help either confuse

 If you are wondering what the difference between the carby on the Blue ttr & the older ''purple ttr carb. In Australia (& maybe UK) the only difference will be that the blue has #50  pilot & the purlpe bike has #48 pilot. There is no difference other than that. Maybe in the UK they fitted some tiny main jet & smaller pilot to the purple bike standard??

In any case i know i would be using #48 0r #50 pilot jet & #147 main (or more like in your case).

 I still have the cut down snorkel that you can have for a christmas pressie if you want?

I don't have a spare snorkel, Adam, but if you're desperate for one then I would consider adapting something similar. confuse

I think that if you look/scrounge around and find something like a Hoover hose then a length suitably cut and gaffa taped may suffice.

It wouldn't be perfect but who would see it? wink

Glad it's kinda sorted

Honestly...your problem will be that the valves needs re-shimming or re-seating.

Because your valves are'nt sealing the hot air does not only go out the exhaust....It goes into the carby...dries out the fuel...hence the '''lean''' condition & ''loss of compression''.

Fitting a snorkel may help to reduce the air going in....in turn helping to ''richen'' it up....it will not fix the problem.

The only other thing that could cause the header pipe to become red (unless your talking about a yz450f) is......If the valve timing is wrong & firing slighty on the intake side...This would be an even bigger problem though as the timing chain ect. will need to be replaced.

Hi jarrah Thanks for your input, I have screwed the mixture screw in a little more and tonight when I got home the front pipe was not glowing red so possibly I am nearly there with my fueling problems, the bike seems to be running and idling the best it has done too! If possible could you post a picture of your trimmed snorkel as I may take you up on the offer if the postage isn't going to be too extravagant. Cheers, Adam.

Hi Brian I may have been a little hasty as today I have screwed in the mixture screw about another half turn so about three in total and tonight when I got home the front pipe was not glowing and the bike seems to be running and idling the best it has done so fingers crossed! Adam.

Quite possibly wise words jarrah, the valves not seating could possibly be the under lying problem as that would cause the poor starting too. The bike has been stood for just over 6 years and I have been adding some gas treatment in with the petrol. I don't want to rip the engine apart until Spring if at all possible as I am using the bike daily until I get the wrx250 back out again.

Glad it's slowly kicking in.. Hope no other damage is done in the process.

If it's not rattling too bad then atleast the timing chain won't slip on you.

I kinda figured you did'nt want to pull it apart just yet so i'm not trying to force you into doing anything you don't want to do. Just let yo know what you'll be in for.

Hope it lasts long enough to do what's needed i truely do.
