hello all,
The 2012 APC Rally finished last Saturday with a total of 7100 kms showing on the GPS ( ride report to come) and the little engine that could had me near the finish point after 15 days of hard toil, what a champion bike .
The TTR was the smallest and the oldest bike on course
I can hardly believe it and Im really despondent but as I was loading the bike on the trailer I slipped and the bike tipped over and fell on to the trailer when I restarted the little blue beast there is now a very sharp metal on metal striking noise coming from within the barrel or top end, the engine starts fine but the sound is very worrying.
During the rally I changed the oil twice , no metal fines found during both the changes , no excessive oil usage over the rally , no weird noises , no blowing smoke, a tiny oil seep from the oil filter cover due to bolt coming loose.
I have yet to dump the oil since we have arrived home but will so tonight and check.
I did find the kick start on the last couple of days maybe softened up a little on the kick, and the starter motor was working some mornings and then it wouldn't during the day.
I hope it,s not terminal any ideas before I start to pull it down?
I need to crackdown a workshop PDF as well so if anyone can help there as well that would be much appreciated as well.
I'm glad she held on till I got home and not in the middle of the Simpson desert .
Thanks for reading.
Cheers.

I have a full pdf. Full workshop manual i can send to your email address as it is too big to fit here if you like. Just pm me your email address.
As for the noise i'm not sure as it was hard to understand your problem.
Use a big screwdriver and put the handle end to your ear and the other end to where you think the '''Loud striking noise inside motor''' noise is coming from against motor.
This should atleast let you know where it is coming from.

My own: Your never too young to learn an old trick! :)
You will have bent a valve from timing chain rattle ( eg.worn cam chain) from the sound of the ''Loud striking noise inside motor''' and loss of compression discribed
It is a common problem for TTr's to jump a few cam chain teeth and bent a valve or two if you do not have a good timing chain, timing chain guides, good cam sprockets so check all these.
Your manual has been sent to both email address's given so check them.Sounds like a bent valve.
Cheers Barra pm on the way .
the noise is in time with the stroke .
If your were to strike two large metal salad serving spoons together every half second that would be close to the noise.
it starts fine but as soon as it starts the striking noise commences , it's very loud, seems to be coming from the mid to top end.
will strip it down the weekend , just not sure what to be looking for , bent stuck valve? we got some pretty poor fuel in the outback that had a lot of bikes misfiring and running terrible.
Cheers
