1996 TTR250 Parts interchangable???

Hello readers, thanks for taking the time to listen. I am stuck with a problem that nobody seems to be able to confirm for sure (not even any yamaha dealers) . As i have a 1996 ttr 250 open enduro part (4GY). I am looking to buy a complete gasket set for it. Just wondering what other year parts will fit mine. The part listings only seems to go from 1999-2006 although i'm told by a few they are the same parts as my model. APPARENTLY yamaha only started listing the ttr in 1999 but?? Also they went to watercooled so that would be a change but unsure as to what year the change to watercooled was. confuseconfuseconfuseIf someone can tell me from what year models will fit mine it would be muchly appreciated.

I was only told that the new ones where water cooled and thought that myself. Just hard to know who to believe as i have heard different reports. In any case i would be obliged to listen to Brian and others on here as he and others on here seem to know much more than sources elsewhere. Thank you so much Brian and was thinking of getting the whole kit for my complete rebuild. Not sure which way i will go yet as i have sourced a complete bottom end that is good. Might just use it for now and continue collecting parts i need for my rebuild. So if the complete gasket kit fit's all bikes then i have a sneaky suspicion that all TTR250 parts are the same???

To matt, thanks for the info and yes i am in Australia smile

Anyone know what year YAMAHA first started making TTR 250's???Would be good to know from what year the part listings start from.

Thanks to all again YAZ ROCK!!!

YAMAHA IS NUMBER 1

Edited (again smile )The only info i have found is that YAMAHA first brought out ttr 250's in 1995. I have heard of 1993 models though not sure if this is true?? I also have a sneaky suspicion that they may have dated the 1193-1994 model as 1995 as  yamaha (and others) release bikes a year before the date off manufacturing.

My own view is that it is an unnecessary expense to buy a complete gasket set (same for all years). Many of your gaskets and seals will come off in one piece. Much cheaper to buy a head and base gasket set plus just the gaskets andseals you really need.

TTR250s are still air cooled - never been a water-cooled model - see http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/products/motorcycle/offroad/trail-bike/11-tt-r250

The WR250R is water cooled so perhaps that is the model you are thinking of?

Hi Barra,

I might be way of the mark here. Is the water cooled yamaha that you are talking about the WR250? I was at the local Yamaha Dealer last week and they had new TTR's there and they are identical to the older bikes. Not water cooled. Are you in Australia? If not I will call the dealership I got my bike and get back to you as the guys here are all over it.

Matt

I bought my TTR specifically because it wasn't water cooled  biggrin

My list was:

Air Cooled
Good Suspension
Light weight (for a 4 stroke)
Easy to maintain

The rest was a bonus, 6 speed etc...

I would like to add one of those nifty Suzuki DR650 Oil coolers though

Cheers

The 4GY1 was brought out in the 4th quarter of 1993 if my Japanese translation is good wink
