Hey steve and all, thanks for your imput and discussion. I might put one of those magnetic sump plugs on my list. It's a pity i don't live in england though as all his stuff is cheap and he has some awesome gear. The postage puts a downer for me because i'm half way around the world from england While i'm on the subject i might add that my dad came from england origanally so i have been there and think it's WICKED AS!!
My project is going good got all the bearings out to replace ect so the engine is all in little bags with notes in them waiting Just waiting on bearing ect so it has all came to a halt for now. Will post pictures as i do it and maybe make a documentry for later purposes(hopefully won't need to later though ). I love ttr's so much that i may end up buying another someday???
For me ttr's only have one downfall and thats the kickstarter. Heard someone say on here they use something a peice of elastic to hold it in lol. Prick of a spot to put it too ;) (excuse my french ) If you keep squirting wd40 or similar into the little ball bearing to get rid of the dust it's not so bad
One thing i learnt about using the ''YAMAHA'' repair manual to pull the engine apart is that it trys to trick you into thinking... Oh no i'll need a special ""YAMAHA"" tool for the clutch boss and a universal clutch holder, crankcase seperator ect. I just made my own clutch boss remover out of an old holden hq metal radiator fan cut down and drilled. I still have to weld the nut to make it easier next time though The other ''SPECIAL'' tools was a rear wheel axle to remove the rotor (not really special and definately not hard to find ) and a ''SPECIAL"" bit of wood (wire brush) so as not to damage the crankshaft while gently tapping with a hammer. If anyone wants to see i got a few pics.
Well better stop talking now or there won't be room lol
YAMAHA IS NUMBER 1

Welcome to a very informative and genteel site. I agree that Yamaha has some good products, and the TT-R250 is a great one, though, perhaps, under-appreciated by the general public.

Hi Barra
Welcome to the site, Sump plug problems seem to be the flavor of the month, mine striped recently, another one yesterday and now yours coming loose although much more expensive to fix by the sound of it, I just bought a new magnetic one from Brian
Always a good idea to check the engine oil level before you start the motor each time, I usually do but it's going to be on my list of must do's from now on
Hey LRG, I agree, I go to another dirt bike forum and they say that the TTR is a good "Entry Level Bike"
well my bike can get to all the same places that the Orange Roughies get to
That may be so but in the 1500 odd k's I have done on mine I haven't had to fix anything because of a break down, Just bad maintenance by the previous owner

Hey Barra, I got a box of goodies from Brian the other day, got here (Aus) in around 4 days and only cost 24 pounds (Around $37 Aussie Dollars) in shipping
It all worked out cheaper than buying here, that is if you could get some of the bits here anyway so don't let the freight charges put you off
By the way, what part of OZ are you in ?
It's not in your profile but that bit about HQ Holdens was a give away
Cheers
Steve

Oh okay guess it would depend on the weight of the items. I do think that his store is awesome as though and to be able to send items that far and still be as cheap or cheaper is great.
To answer your question as to what area of aus im in steve i'm not too far from Cairns. So where you from??

Oh okay cool, our family originally came from the Blue Mountains but i was too young to remember it. Have heard it's a great place though....
I know what you mean about Cairns being too hot and that's why i moved back up this way for summer last year. I'm kinda up in the mountains myself so it's not hot up here although it does get cold (2 degrees the other day). We have apparently made a record for the coldest night-morning at -14 degrees brrr
I do like it up here although not alot of work so that puts a downer on the place Great places to go riding though with trails, dirt roads and tracks just about every up this way so i really enjoy riding up here. Can't wait until my bike is fixed as writing this makes me feel like going trail riding. Just a few more weeks and i will be on the road again yehhh Thanks for the yarns people keep em coming.
Jarrah.
