New boy here from the extreme North! I have a '93 raid that I have had for about 7 years now. It's used daily for my commute of 7 miles round trip along a narrow rocky path, sorry, highway to give it its offical name, that links my house to the outside world. The only other way is by boat. The old girl has done me proud, taking me in and out as well as, in the past, my 3 children to school everyday. It has done over 53,000 miles/Kms with only one top end rebuild to date. I think this is due to the fact that the path is not one you can or want to open it up on. If you fall off here you are in trouble due to the remote nature of the place. It would be a ride on the Coastguard helicopter to hospital and as I am on the local Coastguard rescue team I would never live it down!
The old girl is starting to show her age now, so tomorrow I am setting off South to pick up a '05 TTR with only 1480 miles on the clock which I hope will be as reliable as the old Raid.
When I get back at the weekend I will try to post some pictures of old and new.
I think I sold you some replacement footpegs a long time ago and I am sure that, in addition to your old and new TTR pics, forumites would be interested in the pic you sent me of your old pegs
Yes, thats me with the worn pegs!. Sadly the rest of the bike is showing the same amount of wear hence the trip to London to pick up another TTR. Mrs TTR sent me a nice shiney bash plate and frame guards that will be fitted before I ride it home, I don't want to rub the paint off the frame like the old Raid.
I will post some Pictures of the old and new over the weekend
Welcome. I am curious where abouts in the north are you? I made the trip to highlands a couple of weeks ago and went as far as Durness, stayed at Ullapool, did the Applecross mountain pass and coverd just over 1000 miles in 4 days. Thoroughly enjoyed it even though it was all on tarmac, my Versys was perfect though on those roads. Looking forward to going again.
Not far from Ullapool, in fact I am just off there now to do a wee job before I set off for London to pick the new bike up. If you stand in ullapool and look across the Loch at the lump of land facing you we are on the other side of that.
The roads are fantastic though you have to be on the lookout for tourists sight seeing and some locals not paying attention. A couple of years ago I dropped a friend off that works for me at his house came back to the junction to the main road 5mins later and a car had turned into the road with out looking and taken out a BMW. Rider killed instantly. A sad day. That was the first of 3 that year in the local area. Been better this year, always lots of bikes about just before and after the TT, lots of Germans and Dutch tourists at the moment, must be holiday time over there.

Looks very wild countryside!!! Is your track the one that runs alongside the cliffs in a south easterly direction from Jocks Croft? Gets very close to the edge in places
Just to put my little contribution in; I stayed at the bothy in ullapool after climbing the old man of stoer a couple of years ago. Lovely up there but as you say, quite serious if you get into difficulty.

It was a long drive but it was too good to miss, 1488 miles '05 never been off road. But that will change now! poor thing will hardly see tarmac ever again.
You don't want to fall off here!
One of the decsents on the way in. The fence on the left is great for catching your brake lever on when you are climbing up in the morning, only did it once on the Raid before I fitted wrap around hand guards.
Will post some more pictures tomorrow, Wife wants to go on the computer to speak to our daughter.
Ullapool, one of my favourite towns and probably has the best biking roads in the UK.
If any body likes the back roads, (TTR ideal for them) try turning off the A835 and follow the coast to Lochinver. After an excellent gourmet pie here take the B869 following the coast again for the best scenery in the world. (I'm biased)
Beware of mad tourists and locals who think they don't need to stop for bikes on the very narrow single track roads.
PS The pie company has an excellent restaurant.
