Miles per (UK) gallon fuel economy

Now then,

I have found with cars that spotting an unexpectedly poor fuel economy can be one good way of seeing how knackered an engine is.

I have been commuting from Keighley to Wakefield in West Yorkshire this week, a round trip of 47 miles all on busy roads at rush hours.

I have 1994 Raid, standard engine and original gearing.

I have calculated that it achieved 66 miles per gallon over 4 days, and wondered if anyone knew if this seemed right?

Cheers,

Pete

Sounds about right to me When you say busy roads - do you mean busy at 70mph or busy as in stop start traffic?

Hi pal,

Thanks for the reply, its busy as in mainly stop start inner ringroad punctuated with the odd mile or two of 70mph bypass stretches.

Abit off subject but the townmate does about 100 mpg in stop start traffic and then cruising down country lanes at 30mph will do 140 to 160 miles to the gallon just use gentle throttle control and don't brake hard and accelerate hard.

100mpg - that's impressive.

You sure that isn't a Honda C90?

I had a Yamaha ybr125 that would do 120 mpg on the same run I'm talking about now.
Cheers,
Pete

Nope Yamaha Townmate bigger fuel tank than a C90 but best I got was 160 miles out of a gallon tank, going very steady and quiet roads down to Measham 4 days a week from Nottingham 62 miles round trip. 2 days and one morning trip before filling up.
