would popping on deceleration indicate too lean an idle screw mixture?

i come to this due to it being only when i close the throttle when engine braking, so jetting wouldnt be anything to do with it would it?

havent noticed popping or backfiring under any other circumstance.

the bike idels well, starts well and has a regular idle (not changing)

Usual cause is a hole somewhere in the exhaust system

Mine pops on engine braking when its very low on fuel or when the angle of the tank is such that its not getting enough fuel. I suppose that could point to lean fuelling being a cause if popping sound

yes im thinking lean, because it was getting worse as i descended the mountain i rode today. which would have got leaner. i may lower the clip on the needle. and also wind fuel mix screw out a turn for idle setting.

Hey Dave, mine was popping a bit today on deceleration, it was the first time I ran 98 octane fuel, couldn't tell the difference between 91 and 98 octane except the popping, I'll stick to 91 I think

I usually just get the Std 91 from the caltex servo, I don't know if it has Ethonol in it, I guess not.

It didn't actually say or I didn't actually look  biggrin

You guys are making me feel bad. I use everything from E10 to Shell V power (98 Octane). Avgas slops from work, 2 year old two stroke lawnmower mix and what ever is laying around on the farm. The bike with over 16,000KM on it still goes like new.confuse

You will find that all 91 oct fuel in Australia contains ethanol anywhere from 5-10% and has done for years, it's part of the manufacturing process apparently

I got 190k out of a tank over the last week or so till it got to the reserve

That had 3-4 ltrs of the 98 left over before I filled up again, no popping either, I may put 20% 98-91 mix in for the next couple of tanks just for the hell of it and see what a difference it makes range wise

Catch Ya
