Wondering if anyone has noticed better milage with different fuels. Here in australia we have 91, 95 and 98 fuel but they all react differently. On my ducati 98 gives awesome power but i actually get better milage from the 95. I wonder if the 98 ive been running in the trr is doing the same.
Anyone compared tanks of each?
As far as I am aware your ducati does not have a lambda sensor, so the difference you notice between 95 and 98 RON in it is a placebo. TTRs should run just fine on 91octane, anything over 95 is definitely overkill!
thank goodness that the ttr has absolutely no sensors (hmm except rpm for spark advance, I guess).
I use 91 RON here in Australia and believe it to be fine. Early on, I ran a couple of tanks of 98 to see if by some miracle it might affect the slight hesitancy at 1/3 throttle but I couldn't detect any difference whatsoever.
advantages of 91:
a) it is cheaper b) it works and doesn't produce any knocking or pinging at full throttle uphill c) yamaha recommends it d) it might actually be more energy dense and produce more power than 98 e) it might actually burn slightly more quickly and completely and produce more power than 98
I've ridden a cheap Chinese 150cc bike in Mongolia, where the usual fuel is 80 octane - great fuel range, crap bike but carried a lot of luggage without breaking. That 80 octane fuel worked well in a camp stove too. Strangely, even modern unmodified European or Japanese bikes reportedly still ran OK on that 80 octane fuel despite the fact that their owners manual would be recommending 91 or 95!
The petrol distributors here like to tell you that the higher octane fuel has more special cleansing additives - sounds like a ploy to encourage unneeded fuel upgrades.
If you like I can sell you an "energy polarising crystal" to glue onto the petrol cap which should help deliver better economy
