but i think you have done most or more of the things they suggest.
-have you checked your choke (starter plunger) is not bent or damaged? -is the starter jet clogged (its in a slightly different are to main jet i think) -when you reinstalled the carb did you put the plunger in the correct way round (i have done it incorrectly and the engine wouldn't start for me!) - is your pilot screw set way way wrong -have you checked there is actually a spark coming from the spark plug? (if not then you can go onto check all kinds of electrical things eg, stand switch, neutral switch, kill switch, pick up coil ect) -is there oil in the engine?
if you download the ttr250 work shop manual it has a whole section on this but iv included the 2 pages on that stuff below hopefully it works.
Ok so first i should say hello as this is my first post and i will thank you all for any help in advance. The Run Down: I have a 2006 ttr 250 that has been sitting in the garage for about a year without being started . I knew that i was going to have some issues when trying to get it back running. I emptied the gas tank and replaced with clean fuel. I replaced spark plug and pulled carb out to clean jets and other componets. I put a new air filter on it because it wouldnt hurt and needed it anyway. My initial thought was that it had to be something with the carb having the dirty gas sit in it but even after cleaning it out and cleaning jets i am having no luck getting it started. I am sure that there have been similar issues from other members but i havnt been able to find anything that is working. Should i replace jets? or anyother ideas you may have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks againg in advance. Oh yea, not sure if it makes a huge difference but it was not idling great the last time that i did ride the bike if that changes anything, also this bike is practically brand new. I bought it new in 2006 and maybe rode it ten times so i dont think it would have any serious motor issues but then again im not a mechanic.
Yea I have checked for good spark and all of my other electrical components are working fine. I'm at a loss not being able to get it started after doing all the normal steps. Pilot screw is good and oil will need to be changed once I get it running. I have the manual and have tried the things I can do my self but still no luck
take the plug out, squirt a half dozen drips in the plug hole, put the plug back in, cap on see if it fires at all if it starts a bit or fires up the problem is the carb. did you tear EVERY last jet out of the carb and blow out every hole orifice? if not try that also is the plug new and gapped correctly? is the plug wire ok? is the plug cap ok? Ping if you need help diagnosing it
Yes I put a new plug in it and gapped it correctly. I am going to pull the Carb out again when I get a day off and clean and blow everything out again. I hate to sound stupid for a lack of better term but squirt a half dozens drips of what in the spark plug whole?
its amazing what the internet and a few of the good people left in the world willing to help another rider can do. I got my baby to start so I'm am grining from ear to ear. It is not running great and I need to replace the pet**** since I can't get a good flow of gas to keep it running but just hearing it made my day and saved my wallet doing it myself. Hopefully the pet**** will straighten out the rest of the issues and maybe a little tweaking of other things. You guys are awesome and thanks for all your help and input!
